Oversee day-to-day functioning of the hostel mess and school canteen
Ensure timely preparation and service of breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner
Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and discipline in the dining area, kitchen, and food storage spaces
Check attendance and duty allotment of cooks, helpers, and serving staff
2. Food Quality & Hygiene
Ensure high standards of food taste, freshness, and nutritional balance
Monitor safe food handling practices as per FSSAI standards
Maintain strict hygiene in cooking, serving, and utensil-washing areas
Conduct regular kitchen inspections and ensure pest control measures are followed
3. Menu Planning & Nutrition
Prepare weekly and monthly menus considering taste, nutrition, and student needs
Coordinate with Principal/Hostel Warden for special dietary requirements
Introduce healthy snacks and balanced meals for school children and hostel boys
Ensure variety in meals to avoid repetition and monotony
4. Stock, Purchases & Inventory
Maintain stock register of groceries, vegetables, milk, bread, and other supplies
Check quality and quantity of items delivered by vendors
Manage inventory, reduce food wastage, and control costs
Raise purchase requirements in advance and maintain budget discipline
5. Staff Supervision & Training
Supervise cooks, helpers, cleaners, and serving staff
Conduct training on hygiene, food safety, portion control, and discipline
Prepare staff duty rosters and ensure smooth shift management
Address staff issues professionally and maintain team coordination
6. Student Interaction & Feedback
Collect feedback from hostel boys and students regarding food quality
Address complaints promptly with corrective action
Maintain a positive dining environment with discipline and respect
7. Safety & Compliance
Ensure safe handling of gas cylinders, stoves, and electrical appliances
Maintain proper waste disposal system
Keep fire safety equipment accessible and functional
Follow all school and hostel policies
8. Financial Responsibility
Maintain daily expense records
Ensure mess and canteen operations run within approved budget
Coordinate with accounts department for bill submissions and payment tracking
9. Event & Special Meal Coordination
Arrange special meals for events, festivals, and school celebrations
Manage refreshments for meetings, functions, and school programs
Oversee catering during parent-teacher meetings or hostel events
10. Reporting & Documentation
Report daily/weekly operations to Principal, Admin Head, or Warden
Maintain meal records, attendance, stock registers, and vendor lists
Submit reports on food quality, feedback, issues, and improvements
