To lead and manage the merchandising team for the shirts division, ensuring timely product development, order execution, cost negotiation, and on-time delivery while maintaining quality and profitability. The Merchandising Manager will serve as the main communication bridge between buyers, production, and other internal departments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Buyer Management & Communication
Manage relationships with international and domestic buyers for shirts (formal, casual, and fashion).
Understand buyer requirements, product specifications, and quality standards.
Coordinate sampling, approvals, and production updates with buyers.
Handle buyer visits, presentations, and order follow-ups professionally.
2. Product Development
Lead the design and sampling process for new shirt collections.
Ensure accurate sample costing, trims, fabric sourcing, and technical details.
Monitor sample timelines and ensure approvals as per buyer calendars.
3. Order Execution & Follow-Up
Plan and monitor order progress from order confirmation to shipment.
Coordinate with production, sourcing, planning, and quality departments to ensure smooth execution.
Track material status, approvals, and production milestones.
Maintain T&A (Time & Action) calendars and ensure adherence.
4. Costing & Negotiation
Prepare accurate cost sheets for new developments and bulk orders.
Negotiate prices, lead times, and delivery schedules with buyers and suppliers.
Optimize cost efficiency while maintaining required quality and margins.
5. Team Management
Lead, train, and guide a team of merchandisers and assistant merchandisers.
Assign responsibilities, monitor performance, and ensure accountability.
Foster collaboration across departments to meet targets.
6. Vendor & Supplier Coordination
Work closely with fabric and trim suppliers for on-time delivery and quality compliance.
Build strong vendor relationships for reliable sourcing and price competitiveness.
7. Reporting & Analysis
Maintain accurate order status reports, shipment plans, and cost analyses.
Prepare weekly/monthly performance reports for management.
Identify risks and implement corrective actions proactively.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of shirt manufacturing processes (fabric types, construction, trims, washes, etc.)
Excellent understanding of merchandising workflow (development to shipment).
Good negotiation and costing skills.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Effective communication and presentation skills.
Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems, and merchandising software.
Ability to handle multiple buyers and large order volumes.
Qualification & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, Fashion Merchandising, or related field.
7-12 years of experience in garment merchandising (preferably woven shirts).
Experience in handling international buyers (US/EU/UK markets preferred).
Proven track record in managing a merchandising team in a factory environment.
