Job Summary
The MEP Tendering Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) cost estimates and tender submissions for interior fit-out projects. The role involves detailed quantity take-offs, coordination with design and project teams, vendor negotiations, and ensuring compliance with client specifications, authority regulations, and project budgets.
Key Responsibilities
Tendering & Estimation
Review tender documents including drawings, BOQs, specifications, and scope of work
Prepare detailed MEP cost estimates for interior fit-out projects (offices, retail, hospitality, residential, etc.)
Perform quantity take-offs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire fighting, ELV, and BMS systems
Analyze tender risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost optimization strategies
Prepare technical and commercial tender submissions within deadlines
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
Identify suitable suppliers and subcontractors for MEP works
Issue RFQs and evaluate quotations technically and commercially
Negotiate prices and terms to achieve competitive project costing
Maintain updated vendor and subcontractor databases
Technical Review & Compliance
Ensure compliance with project specifications, local authority requirements, and industry standards
Coordinate with design, interior, and civil teams to clarify scope and interface issues
Review shop drawings, material submittals, and proposed systems during tender stage
Propose alternative materials or systems for cost and performance efficiency
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare cost breakdowns, tender clarifications, and comparison statements
Assist in contract award documentation and handover to project execution teams
Maintain records of tender data, estimates, and historical cost information
Support post-tender negotiations and revisions
Qualifications & SkillsEducation
Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering
Experience
3-7 years of experience in MEP tendering, preferably in interior fit-out projects
Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire fighting, and ELV systems
Experience working with consultants, contractors, and fit-out specialists
Technical Skills
Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and estimation software
Ability to read and interpret construction and interior drawings
Knowledge of authority approvals and local regulations (e.g., NFPA, ASHRAE, DEWA/SEWA/ADDC or local equivalents)
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and negotiation skills
Excellent time management and attention to detail
Effective communication and coordination abilities
