Job Overview:

The MEP Design Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems in various construction projects. The role involves creating detailed designs, specifications, and plans to ensure the systems are safe, efficient, and meet building codes and client requirements. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that MEP systems integrate smoothly into the overall building design.

Key Responsibilities:

MEP System Design and Planning:

Design mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Create detailed MEP system layouts, schematics, and technical specifications to meet project requirements. Perform load calculations and ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards, and regulations. Select appropriate materials, equipment, and systems for MEP designs based on project needs and budget.

Collaboration with Project Teams:

Work closely with architects, structural engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the seamless integration of MEP systems into the overall building design. Coordinate with construction teams to ensure that MEP designs are correctly implemented during the building phase. Collaborate with clients to understand project goals, provide design solutions, and address any concerns or changes in scope.

Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:

Incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design principles into MEP systems to reduce operational costs and environmental impact. Conduct energy simulations and system performance analysis to ensure the design is optimal for energy savings. Stay current with green building practices, energy codes, and sustainability trends.

Project Documentation and Compliance:

Prepare and maintain all necessary technical documentation, including drawings, reports, specifications, and manuals. Ensure that all MEP systems comply with local, state, and national codes, as well as industry standards. Perform regular quality assurance checks to ensure that designs meet high standards of safety and reliability.

Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:

Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance during construction and installation phases. Address any MEP-related issues that arise during the project lifecycle and provide practical solutions. Perform system testing and commissioning to ensure the performance of MEP systems.

Project Management and Coordination:

Lead and manage MEP design aspects of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. Provide regular updates to clients and project managers on design progress, changes, and challenges. Assist in the procurement process by providing specifications for MEP equipment and systems.

Training and Mentorship:

Mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance on technical aspects of MEP design and project management. Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to continuously improve the team's skill set.

Qualifications/Skills:

A minimum of 5 years of experience as an MEP Design Engineer or in a similar role, with a proven track record in designing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Proficiency in MEP design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry-standard tools. Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to MEP systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable MEP systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required. Professional certifications such as LEED accreditation or PMP certification is a plus.
