Job Summary
The MEP Costing Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and budgets for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works in interior fit-out projects. The role focuses on cost planning, quantity take-offs, budgeting, cost control, and coordination with design, procurement, and project execution teams to ensure projects are delivered within approved budgets.
Key ResponsibilitiesCost Estimation & Budgeting
Prepare detailed MEP cost estimates for interior fit-out projects (offices, retail, hospitality, residential)
Carry out quantity take-offs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire fighting, ELV, and low-current systems
Develop project budgets and cost plans based on drawings, specifications, and client requirements
Analyze drawings and specifications to identify cost impacts and scope gaps
Cost Control & Monitoring
Monitor MEP project costs during execution against approved budgets
Track variations, additional works, and change orders
Prepare cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and variance analyses
Support project managers in controlling costs and improving profitability
Technical & Commercial Coordination
Coordinate with design, interior, and project teams to ensure accurate costing
Review MEP designs for constructability and cost efficiency
Propose value engineering options and alternative materials or systems
Support procurement team in price benchmarking and supplier evaluations
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare cost breakdowns, BOQs, and comparison statements
Maintain historical cost data for future project reference
Assist in final account preparation and project close-out
Support management with cost summaries and financial reports
Qualifications & SkillsEducation
Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering
Experience
3-7 years of experience in MEP costing, preferably in interior fit-out projects
Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire fighting, and ELV systems
Technical Skills
Proficiency in MS Excel and cost estimation tools
Ability to read and interpret interior and MEP drawings
Knowledge of local authority regulations and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, local codes)
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and numerical skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Good communication and coordination abilities
Ability to work under tight deadlines
