An MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) Consultant is responsible for designing, planning, reviewing, and coordinating all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, firefighting, and HVAC systems of a project to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant installations.
Key Responsibilities1. Design & Planning
Assist in preparing MEP system designs (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, firefighting).
Support in creating layout drawings, schematics, load calculations, and BOQs.
Participate in value engineering to optimize system performance and cost.
2. Coordination & Technical Support
Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and vendors for MEP-related activities.
Review shop drawings, technical submittals, and material approvals.
Conduct site visits to monitor MEP installation progress and ensure compliance with design.
3. Quality & Compliance
Ensure all MEP works follow relevant standards (NBC, IS Codes, ASHRAE, IEC, NFPA etc.).
Identify design issues, deviations, or conflicts and recommend solutions.
Support commissioning activities and system testing for HVAC, electrical panels, pumps, etc.
4. Project & Documentation Support
Prepare technical reports, design notes, and site inspection reports.
Maintain proper documentation of design revisions and project updates.
Assist in tender document preparation, technical comparisons, and vendor evaluation.
5. Cost & Time Management
Assist in preparing project cost estimates for MEP systems.
Monitor project deliverables to ensure deadlines and budgets are met.
Qualification Requirements
Educational Qualification:
B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering
Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (for junior roles)
Technical Skills:
Basic understanding of HVAC, Electrical, Firefighting & Plumbing systems
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, MS Office
Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IS Codes)
Soft Skills:
Good communication and coordination skills
Ability to solve technical issues and work in team environments
Documentation and report-writing skills
Experience Required
2-3 years of experience
working in MEP design, site execution, or consultancy firm.
Experience in reviewing drawings, material submittals, and preparation of BOQs.
Exposure to site inspection, contractor coordination, and MEP installation monitoring.
