Job Description

The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing medical dictations, reports, and clinical documentation recorded by doctors and healthcare professionals. The role ensures timely, error-free medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities



Transcribe dictated medical reports including OPD notes, discharge summaries, operative notes, progress notes, referral letters, and diagnostic reports. Edit and proofread transcribed documents for grammar, clarity, accuracy, and medical terminology. Ensure correct formatting of reports as per hospital standards. Verify patient details, medical terms, medications, procedures, and diagnoses for accuracy. Upload finalized reports into the Hospital Information System (HIS/EMR) within stipulated timelines. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and comply with medical ethics and data protection policies. Coordinate with doctors and clinical staff for clarification of dictations when required. Maintain organized records of completed and pending transcriptions. Adhere to turnaround time (TAT) standards set by the hospital. Report any discrepancies, missing information, or errors to the concerned authority.

Experience



1-3 years of experience in hospital or healthcare transcription preferred.

Skills & Competencies



Strong knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent typing speed with high accuracy. Proficiency in MS Word and Hospital Information Systems (HIS). Good listening, comprehension, and language skills. Ability to meet deadlines and manage workload efficiently. High attention to detail and confidentiality.
