Job Description

The Assistant Professor in Medical Laboratory Technology is responsible for teaching undergraduate or postgraduate students in the field of medical laboratory science, including laboratory techniques, diagnostic procedures, and laboratory management. The faculty member will also engage in research activities related to advancements in medical diagnostics, laboratory technologies, and healthcare practices. The Assistant Professor will contribute to the development and updating of the curriculum, and assist with student mentorship and academic support.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Instruction:

Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and laboratory practicals in Medical Laboratory Technology. Teach subjects such as hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, immunology, and diagnostic laboratory technologies. Develop, prepare, and update course syllabi and instructional materials in accordance with program goals and accreditation requirements. Use innovative teaching methods (e.g., simulations, online platforms, case studies) to engage students and enhance learning. Supervise laboratory sessions, ensuring students perform laboratory procedures safely and effectively. Assess student performance through assignments, exams, lab reports, and practical demonstrations.

Curriculum Development and Evaluation:

Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum. Ensure the curriculum reflects the latest advancements in laboratory techniques, technologies, and diagnostics. Evaluate and update the curriculum to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Research and Scholarly Activities:

Conduct research in areas related to medical laboratory technology, such as diagnostic technologies, laboratory management, or innovations in testing procedures. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at relevant scientific conferences. Apply for research grants and collaborate with other institutions or industry partners on research projects.

Clinical and Laboratory Supervision:

Supervise students during their clinical or laboratory rotations, ensuring proper application of laboratory techniques in real-world clinical settings. Provide guidance on laboratory safety protocols, quality control measures, and ethical practices in laboratory settings. Collaborate with clinical institutions, hospitals, or labs to provide students with practical training opportunities.

Academic Support and Mentorship:

Advise and mentor students on academic matters, career development, and research projects. Provide academic support to students struggling with course content or laboratory skills. Offer guidance on research projects, theses, and capstone assignments.

Professional Development and Continuing Education:

Participate in professional development activities, including attending workshops, conferences, and webinars on laboratory technologies and teaching methods. Stay current with advancements in medical laboratory science, diagnostic tools, and laboratory automation technologies. Engage in continuous learning and contribute to the development of new knowledge in the field.

Service to the Department and Institution:

Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other academic services. Assist in departmental administration, accreditation processes, and program evaluations. Contribute to institutional initiatives and collaborations with industry stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

A Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or a related field. Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the field of medical laboratory science is preferred, but not required. Certifications or licenses in relevant areas of medical laboratory technology (e.g., ASCP, AMT) are highly desirable.
