The Lab Technician will support teaching, training, and practical laboratory activities in the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology. The role involves preparing, maintaining, and managing laboratory equipment, assisting faculty and students during practical sessions, and ensuring strict adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Support & Practical Teaching Assistance
Prepare reagents, chemicals, media, stains, and samples required for practical classes.
Set up instruments and demonstration stations prior to laboratory sessions.
Assist faculty during practicals, demonstrations, and assessments.
Guide students in proper handling of lab equipment and materials.
2. Equipment Handling & Maintenance
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments such as:
Hematology analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, spectrophotometers, biochemistry analyzers, incubators, etc.
Maintain instrument logs, calibration records, and breakdown reports.
Coordinate for repairs and preventive maintenance as required.
3. Laboratory Management & Safety
Maintain inventory of consumables, reagents, glassware, and chemicals.
Ensure proper labelling, storage, and disposal of biological and chemical waste.
Implement biosafety, infection control, and fire safety protocols.
Ensure cleanliness, sterility, and readiness of laboratory spaces.
4. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain practical registers, stock registers, and issue records.
Assist in preparing laboratory SOPs and checklists.
Support inspections, audits, and accreditation activities (if applicable).
Ensure compliance with university guidelines and regulatory standards.
