We are seeking a detail-oriented

Medical Billing Specialist

to manage end-to-end medical billing operations in a remote mental health setting.

Job Summary

The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for ensuring all clinical services are billed accurately, claims are followed up, denials are resolved, and payments are collected efficiently. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of U.S. insurance billing, and compliance with HIPAA standards.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, review, and submit electronic insurance claims Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for mental health services Follow up on unpaid, rejected, or denied claims within billing timelines Research and appeal denied claims Review insurance payments for accuracy (deductibles, copays, coinsurance) Contact insurance companies regarding payment discrepancies Handle secondary and tertiary insurance billing when applicable Answer patient and insurance inquiries related to billing Set up and manage patient payment plans Update cash and billing tracking spreadsheets Coordinate with internal teams regarding credentialing and billing Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or higher 1+ years of medical billing experience (U.S. healthcare preferred) Knowledge of CPT codes, NPIs, EIN/TAX ID, ERA, EFT Understanding of insurance concepts: deductibles, copays, coinsurance Familiarity with mental health diagnoses and therapy services is a plus Strong communication and customer service skills Excellent organizational and documentation abilities Ability to work independently in a remote setup
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in mental health or behavioral health billing Experience working with U.S.-based insurance providers Familiarity with EHR or medical billing software
