The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. The role involves interpreting technical drawings, performing inspections, diagnosing faults, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Install, assemble, and align machinery and mechanical components according to engineering specifications and drawings.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical faults in plant and equipment.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and record activities in maintenance logs.
Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, vernier calipers).
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
Dismantle and reassemble machinery for overhaul or replacement of parts.
Work closely with other trades (electricians, welders, technicians) during maintenance or installation projects.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, risk assessments, and company procedures.
Maintain housekeeping standards in work areas.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Trade qualification / NVQ Level 3 / Diploma in Mechanical Fitting, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
