Job Description

A Mechanical Engineer

researches, designs, develops, manufactures, and tests mechanical and thermal devices, such as machines, engines, and systems

. Key duties involve analyzing problems, creating technical designs using

computer-aided design

(CAD) software, building and testing prototypes, overseeing manufacturing, and inspecting equipment for functionality and safety.

They apply principles of math, physics, and engineering to solve problems and ensure efficient and reliable operation of products and systems across various industries, including manufacturing, energy, automotive, and aerospace.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Design:

Analyze problems to design new or improve existing mechanical and thermal devices, components, or systems.

Computer-Aided Design (CAD):

Create detailed blueprints and technical drawings using CAD software to visualize designs.

Prototyping and Testing:

Develop prototypes of designed devices, conduct experiments and tests, and analyze the results to validate designs and make improvements.

Manufacturing Oversight:

Supervise and provide technical guidance during the manufacturing process to ensure the quality and successful production of devices.

Analysis and Diagnostics:

Investigate equipment failures or operational difficulties to diagnose problems and recommend effective remedies.

Project Management:

Assess project requirements, agree on budgets and timescales, and oversee project teams to ensure timely delivery and successful outcomes.

Quality Control:

Establish standards and policies for quality control, installation, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Required Skills

Technical Skills:

Strong foundation in mechanics, thermodynamics, engineering principles, and the use of CAD software.

Analytical Skills:

Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret data from tests, and identify solutions.

Problem-Solving:

Creativity and analytical skills to find innovative solutions for mechanical and thermal challenges.

Communication:

Clear communication skills to collaborate with teams, explain technical information to clients and colleagues, and document findings.
