Job Description

Mechanical (Static & Rotating) Engineer - Detailed



Responsible for the mechanical design, specification, and engineering oversight of all static and rotating equipment for the ammonia plant, including reformers, compressors, exchangers, pressure vessels, and auxiliary mechanical systems. Ensures all mechanical equipment meets project performance requirements, complies with international codes, and supports safe, reliable, and maintainable plant operations. Collaborates closely with process, piping, structural, electrical, and vendor teams throughout the FEED phase.

Key Responsibilities / Deliverables

Prepare equipment lists, mechanical datasheets, and FEED-level equipment specifications for static and rotating equipment.

Lead mechanical design for:

Compressors (centrifugal, reciprocating) Heat exchangers (shell & tube, air-cooled) Pressure vessels and high-pressure reactors Reformers and associated mechanical systems
Perform mechanical sizing, design validation, and code compliance checks using ASME, API, TEMA, and related standards.

Prepare technical requisitions, participate in vendor bid evaluations, and review vendor documents, drawings, and mechanical calculations.

Support the development of P&IDs, equipment arrangement plans, and 3D model reviews.

Provide mechanical inputs to HAZOP, SIL reviews, and other safety evaluations.

Evaluate mechanical design for reliability, maintainability, and operability, including access platforms, lifting provisions, and maintenance clearances.

Review and approve vendor inspection & testing plans (hydrotests, NDE, FAT).

Provide constructability and modularization input to support efficient fabrication and field assembly.

Support the preparation of FEED deliverables, including datasheets, material requisitions, design specifications, and discipline reports.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of mechanical design codes: ASME Sec VIII, API (618, 617, 660, etc.), TEMA, NACE, and relevant industry standards.

Proficiency with mechanical engineering tools such as PV Elite, Compress, HTRI, Caesar II, and 3D model review platforms.

Understanding of high-pressure/high-temperature equipment design, hydrogen and CO? service requirements, and material selection.

Familiarity with rotating equipment performance evaluation and vibration considerations.

Knowledge of construction methods and modular construction for heavy mechanical systems.

Experience

5-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering for heavy industrial, chemical, or ammonia/hydrogen facilities.

Experience producing FEED-level specifications and reviewing vendor packages

Job Type: Freelance
Contract length: 8-12 months

Pay: ?900.00 - ?1,200.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 25 per week
