Mechanical Engineer - Robotics
Requirements
Mechanical design of robotic systems and mechanisms
Understanding of kinematics, joints, degrees of freedom (DOF), and force/torque transmission
Basic application of statics and dynamics to moving mechanisms
Knowledge of actuators:
DC motors, BLDC motors, stepper motors
Gearboxes (planetary, spur, worm), gear ratios, backlash, efficiency
Experience designing mechanical subsystems:
Frames, brackets, mounts, joints, linkages
Belt, pulley, chain, lead screw, rack-and-pinion mechanisms
Understanding of bearings, shafts, couplings, fasteners, and standard mechanical components
Knowledge of tolerances, fits, and GD&T basics
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings)
Ability to create manufacturing-ready drawings and BOMs
Exposure to Blender for visualization or complex surfaces is a bonus
Prototyping and fabrication experience:
3D printing (FDM / SLA) for rapid prototyping
Basic material knowledge (plastics and metals)
Hands-on assembly and rework
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes:
CNC machining, laser cutting, sheet metal, injection molding
Design for manufacturability (DFM)
Exposure to simulation tools:
ADAMS, MATLAB, or equivalent for motion or load analysis
Ability to read datasheets, vendor drawings, and mechanical standards
Clear documentation of designs, revisions, and test outcomes
Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary robotics team

What You'll Work On
Designing mechanical subsystems for robotic platforms, manipulators, and mechanisms
Converting system requirements into CAD models, assemblies, and drawings
Designing and iterating on joints, linkages, mounts, frames, and enclosures
Selecting and integrating motors, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, and fasteners
Performing force, torque, and motion calculations to validate designs
Prototyping parts using 3D printing and assembling mechanical systems
Supporting mechanical testing, fit checks, and design validation
Iterating designs based on test results, failures, and integration feedback
Collaborating with electrical and software teams for actuator and sensor integration
Preparing manufacturing drawings and BOMs for fabrication
Assisting in transitioning designs from prototype to low-volume manufacturing
Documenting design decisions, revisions, and lessons learned
