Job Title: Mechanical Engineer - SolidWorks, Sheet Metal Fabrication (2-3+ years)
Company:Prama Instruments Pvt Ltd Location: Rabale - Hybrid/In-Office options available Industry: Instrumentation / Instrumentation Manufacturing Employment Type: Full-time
About Us We are a leading instrumentation manufacturer delivering high-quality sensing, measurement, and control solutions. We design, develop, and manufacture precision instruments that meet demanding industry standards. We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with strong SolidWorks expertise and sheet metal fabrication experience to join our product development and manufacturing teams.
Role Overview The Mechanical Engineer will contribute across the product lifecycle--from concept to production--involving mechanical design, 3D modeling, drawings, tolerance analysis, assembly verification, and liaison with manufacturing. The ideal candidate has 2-3+ years of relevant experience, a master's level proficiency in SolidWorks, and hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication processes.
Key Responsibilities
Conceptualize, design, and optimize mechanical components and assemblies for instrumentation products.
Create robust 3D models, detailed 2D drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing instructions using SolidWorks (including complex sheet metal parts and enclosures).
Perform design calculations, tolerance analysis (DFM/DFA), FMEA, and risk assessments to ensure reliability and manufacturability.
Develop sheet metal parts from concept to production, including flat patterns, bend allowances, tabs, slots, fasteners, and stamping considerations.
Liaise with electrical, electronics, and software teams to ensure seamless integration of enclosures, covers, brackets, heatsinks, cable management, and connectors.
Lead or participate in prototyping, testing, and validation activities; revise designs based on test data.
Create and maintain manufacturing documentation: work instructions, assembly procedures, inspection criteria, and QA/QC standards.
Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on fabrication processes, material selection, surface finishing, coating, and tolerances.
Support production, including troubleshooting, ECO/ECN implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with relevant standards and industry practices (e.g., IEC/UL, IP ratings, EMC considerations as applicable to instrumentation gear).
Maintain design files, version control, and documentation in PLM/ECAD systems; ensure traceability and proper document control.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master preferred for SolidWorks focus).
Experience: 2-3+ years of mechanical design experience in instrumentation, equipment, or related fields; strong emphasis on SolidWorks development.
SolidWorks: Advanced proficiency (3D modeling, assemblies, welded/Sheet Metal modules, multi-body parts, configurations, lofts, lofted bends, weldments, weldment libraries, BOMs, drawing sets, GD&T).
Sheet Metal: Expertise in sheet metal design, flat patterns, bending allowances, flanges, tabs, lugs, fastening methods, forming processes, and fabrication tolerances.
Manufacturing & Prototyping: Experience with rapid prototyping, test rigs, and fixture design.
Tolerances & Standards: Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, DFM/DFA principles.
Materials & Processes: Knowledge of common metals (aluminum, steel) and surface treatments (anodizing, powder coating, painting) as relevant to instrumentation housings.
Thermal/Mechanical Considerations: Basic understanding of thermal management, ventilation, and vibration considerations for precision instruments.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication; ability to document designs clearly and present to cross-functional teams.
Tools: Proficiency with SolidWorks; experience with PLM/PDM systems; familiarity with ECN/ECI processes; 2D CAD skills as needed.
Other:Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and quality orientation.
Nice-to-Haves
Exposure to instrumentation or medical/industrial equipment sectors.
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or computational tools.
Familiarity with instrumentation industry standards (EMC/EMI considerations, IP ratings).
Experience with sheet metal fabrication vendors and fabrication routes (laser cutting, punching, folding, welding).
What We Offer
Competitive salary commensurate with experience
Performance-based incentives
