Mechanical Design Engineer - Power Electronics Packaging (Defence Systems)

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Power Electronics team

developing ruggedized DC-DC converters, inverters, and power electronic systems for defence

applications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in thermal design, heat sink

development, 3D modelling, and mechanical packaging for high-reliability systems operating in

demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop mechanical enclosures and packaging for DC-DC converters and
water-cooled inverters.

Engineer thermal management systems including heat sinks, liquid cooling, and airflow
optimization.

Create and maintain 3D models, mechanical assemblies, and detailed manufacturing
drawings using CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIA.

Design panels, brackets, and ruggedized mechanical structures compliant with defence
and MIL standards.

Perform thermal and structural simulations (CFD/FEA) to validate mechanical integrity
and reliability.

Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and systems engineers to ensure integrated system
performance.

Support prototype development, testing, and qualification of mechanical assemblies. Ensure compliance with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and other applicable defence
environmental and mechanical standards.

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor's / Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. 3-6 years of experience in mechanical design of power electronics systems or
defence/aerospace equipment.

Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIA).

Strong knowledge of thermal design, heat sink development, and liquid cooling systems. Understanding of manufacturing processes - sheet metal, die-casting, machining, and
coatings.

Experience in FEA/CFD analysis for thermal and structural validation. Knowledge of DFMEA, DFM, and DFA principles. Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with defence-grade mechanical design and environmental qualification. Familiarity with EMI/EMC mechanical mitigation and IP-rated enclosures. Exposure to lightweight materials, corrosion protection, and ruggedization techniques. Knowledge of reliability engineering and system integration for defence power systems.
