Job Summary & Responsibilities

As a core member of our growing engineering team, you'll play a hands-on role in shaping cutting-edge Electric Vehicle (EV) platforms and robotic systems for defence and industrial use. This role blends mechanical design, system integration, and product development in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup environment.

Mechanical Design & Product Development

Design and develop robust, functional, and aesthetically refined mechanical components and assemblies tailored for EV and robotic platforms. Lead design projects from concept to prototype, focusing on performance, durability, and manufacturability in defence-grade systems. Perform detailed 3D CAD modelling using tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and AutoCAD.

Vehicle Packaging & System Integration

Plan and optimize the layout of major components (e.g., battery packs, motors, suspension systems, sensors) to ensure compact packaging, structural integrity, and serviceability. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to integrate all systems within confined spaces without compromising performance.

Vehicle Dynamics & Structural Optimization

Design suspension systems and vehicle dynamics for terrain-adaptable robotic mobility. Analyse and tune kinematics, weight distribution, and ground clearance for off-road and all-terrain stability. Conduct Finite Element Method (FEM) analyses to validate structures under high loads and harsh environments.

Powertrain & Sustainability Initiatives

Support the design and integration of electric drivetrains and thermal systems in both wheeled and tracked platforms. Apply principles of sustainable engineering including modular design, battery recycling considerations, and materials selection for extended lifecycle.

Simulation, Prototyping & Testing

Run simulations for structural, thermal, and motion analyses to inform design decisions. Develop and iterate physical mock-ups and prototypes rapidly for functional testing and validation. Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure design feasibility and production readiness.

Collaboration & Cross-functional Leadership

Engage with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to gather requirements and develop fit-for-purpose solutions. Work closely with R&D and systems engineering to align mechanical designs with software, electronics, and mission requirements. Prepare and maintain detailed documentation including drawings, layouts, BOMs, and technical reports.

Mentorship & Agile Development

Mentor interns and junior engineers in technical design, documentation, and hands-on assembly. Contribute to a lean, agile engineering culture that prioritizes speed, experimentation, and continuous learning.

Skills required

Design (SolidWorks/Fusion360/Autodesk Inventor preferred), simulation & analysis, vehicle architecture & dynamics, powertrain & thermal systems (EV focused), prototyping & manufacturing, critical thinking, proactive.

Desired candidate profile

Education & Experience

Bachelor's/Master's degree in Mechanical /Automotive Engineering or a related field. 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in EVs. Participation experience in BAJA SAEINDIA/Formula Student (Formula Bharat)/Effi Cycle) or any other similar competitions will be preferred.

Design & CAD Tools

Proficient in 3D CAD modelling and drafting using SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and AutoCAD Ability to create complex assemblies, layout studies, exploded views, and manufacturing drawings with GD&T Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles

Simulation & Analysis

Experience with Finite Element Method (FEM) tools such as ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or Fusion 360 Simulation Ability to run static, dynamic, thermal, and modal analysis for components and systems Knowledge of kinematics, multi-body dynamics, and vehicle motion simulation is a plus

Vehicle Architecture & Dynamics

Familiarity with vehicle packaging principles, especially for EVs and robotics Understanding of suspension design, chassis layout, and weight distribution optimization Experience with off-road mobility dynamics and rugged system integration is highly desirable

Powertrain & Thermal Systems (EV Focused)

Knowledge of electric powertrain components (motors, inverters, gearboxes, battery packs, cooling systems) Experience integrating powertrain systems in compact and thermally constrained environments Familiarity with battery mounting, cooling, and protection systems is a strong advantage

Prototyping & Manufacturing

Hands-on experience with prototyping tools, CNC, 3D printing, and sheet metal fabrication Ability to translate designs into real-world assemblies and troubleshoot during build Familiarity with material selection for defence-grade applications (e.g., aluminium alloys, composites, thermoplastics)

Documentation & Standards

Skilled in creating detailed 2D drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation Knowledge of ISO, ASME, or military design standards is beneficial Proficient in using PLM/PDM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Autodesk Vault)
