MATERIALS ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

Description

Performs routine analyses using Materials Engineering tools and standard instruments and test equipment, while positively impacting the organization\'s performance.

Operates analytical instruments and equipment and performs physical analysis in support of production and non-production engineering, quality, and manufacturing groups.

Prepares samples and specimens for testing using standard laboratory techniques, procedures, or work instructions.

Acquires and interprets data and documents results; provides written results in a laboratory or technical report format when appropriate.

Develops and documents laboratory methods.

Performs routine calibrations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repair of instruments and equipment.

Coordinates the collection, transportation, and documentation of chemical waste disposal.

Works with and trains apprentices, trainees, and technicians.

Interfaces with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other functions.

Coordinates programs including planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking.

Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures and work instructions.

Participates in improvement projects.

Develops and gives presentations to customers and suppliers.

Participates in self and team audits and associated corrective action.

Performs other miscellaneous duties, as required.

Data Reporting - Prepares documentation in a manner which clearly organizes and presents testing methods, instrument settings, the data and analysis to allow the engineer and customer to understand the results and form accurate conclusions and recommendations.

Material Characterization - Interprets mechanical, chemical, microstructural and physical properties using laboratory equipment to confirm compliance to print, and correlates these properties with field or component test results to determine robustness; defines appropriate material characterization schedule using correct laboratory equipment to ensure requirements are met.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through training or on-the-job experience.

Responsibilitiesfor the Position 1.Carry out material testing in line with work request underminimum supervision ( Rockwell, Brinell, Microvicher Hardness tester, UTM,Microscope, Metallographic equipment like, Cutting, Polishing, SamplePreparation etc) * Compiling raw data & prepare test reports. Connect with customers as onwhen required
3.Take ownership of the equipment from AMC / Breakdown / Preventive maintainedactivities. Spares and consumables requirement of Metallurgy relatedequipment\xe2\x80\x99s. 4.Ensure 5S in lab area. 5.Participatesas a team member and actively contributes towards team goals.

Skills:

Skilled in Material testing, failure analysis and interpretationof the results

Must understand concepts of measurement range, precision, accuracy, andtraceability.

Good in excel, word & PPT

Demonstrates good understanding and applies knowledge of Cummins basicprocesses like, CQMS, QSI, HIRA, Aspect Impact, PR / PO, NPDN and LWRFprocesses.

Should have good communication skills to connect with customers& understanding their requirements

Should have knowledge of calibrationprocess, MSA & Measurement Uncertainty.

Knowledge of Excel, Word, PPT
