Title: Market & Value Chain Expert Location: Ranchi, Jharkhand Reports to: State Program Manager, Jharkhand Employment Status: Full Time Last update : 24, December 2023 Trickle Up helps people in extreme poverty and vulnerability advance their economic and social well-being. We work with women and vulnerable populations to start sustainable livelihoods and join self-help groups that give them a safe place to save money, access credit, gain hope and confidence, and become decision-makers in their households and communities. Trickle Up has been working in India for last four decades to improve the economic empowerment, financial resilience, social inclusion and agency of extremely poor women from SC, ST and PVTG communities through the graduation approach focused on robust coaching and mentoring. Trickle Up and Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society have been working together since 2015 through three successive MoUs between both agencies. Trickle Up is continuing to provide need based technical knowledge support to JSLPS for improving the quality of deliverables by the frontline coaches. To further impact at scale Trickle Up is setting Up a Technical Support Unit ( TSU) at JSLPS to act as an advisory to the Special Protection Cell-PVTG and Ultra Poor Development and other units of JSLPS.T he Technical Support Unit will assist JSLPS in developing contextually appropriate contents for the field team, provide technical advisories to the state, district and block level teams of JSLPS, develop tailored innovations deemed appropriate for the PVTGs and ultra-poor families, bring in and promote innovation, build the capacity of the staffs and demonstrate models in the field for learning, replication and scale-up. The TSU will comprise a team of Subject Matter Experts including the Micro Enterprise & Value Chain Expert. The Micro Enterprise & Value Chain Expert at the Technical Support Unit of JSLPS is a pivotal role reporting to the State Program Manager. He/She will serve as the primary technical lead, guiding & advising various implementation teams at JSLPS to effectively design and develop micro-enterprise/ clusters and value chain development, livelihood marketing strategies, assessment, implementation roadmaps, and capacity building support. In addition, the expert will play a crucial role in , facilitating marketing of products through partnerships and market access opportunities, with a focus on Non-Timber Forest Products/Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, agricultural produce, and livestock. The goal is to enhance participant incomes, encourage economic diversification, improve overall productivity and increase JSLPS capacity to provide further support. Major Roles And Responsibilities The Technical Expert will work in coordination with JSLPS and will be responsible for planning and developing the interventions in markets and value chains in the framework of promoting economic inclusion for vulnerable groups. S/he will design and implement interventions aligned with the program\'s approaches and principles. The role involves providing technical and strategic oversight, identifying capacity gaps, applying innovative systemic solutions, and building JSLPS capacities. The position requires market systems development expertise for sustainable livelihoods, economic inclusion, and resilience. This includes analyzing systemic constraints and opportunities in selected sub-sectors and designing and implementing interventions accordingly. The focus addresses barriers to access, full participation, and benefits for target groups regarding market systems and economic opportunities. Value Chain & Market Analysis Support market & value chains mapping and analysis and share recommendations. Analyse the enterprises and provide recommendations to increase competitiveness in the market and market linkages at the local level. Identify key value chain opportunities and develop strategies for marketing of production in relevant value chains. Manuals, Modules, Training Develop or adapt training packages including modules on value chains, marketing & market linkage. Develop knowledge products to increase understanding of the coaches & participants on the market and its dynamics. Develop the annual training calendar for the coaches. Train coaches on monitoring of the key market trends and adaptation. Build the capacity of the coaches & program team on market linkage and value chains for exploring the local markets. Orient the program team on markets and value chain analysis. Coordinate with Market Actors for Marketing Provide technical support for market mapping and analysis of the key input and marketing of the products/produce. Facilitate access to markets by establishing market linkages between the community and private/public partners for the products/produce. Key Skills /Competencies Experience in developing and implementing livelihood, value chains and enterprise strategies, preferably in a natural-resource context. Strong analytical and operational knowledge of enterprise development and understanding of the range of support needed for enterprise development, from start-up to expansion. Familiarity with the dynamics and key issues related to community-based livelihood management in Jharkhand. Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural and diverse setting. A proper command of written and spoken English and Hindi is mandatory. Understanding of socio-economic and cultural aspects of Jharkhand. Self-driven with a pro-active approach to problem solving. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize. Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Frequent field trips away from assigned location, potentially overnight. High levels of computer literacy; competent use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word). Ability to accept additional responsibilities as required by the demands of service. Experience A minimum of 5 years active engagement and experience of working with local rural communities on diversifying livelihoods and developing sustainable solutions through development & management on microenterprise development projects, agribusiness promotion, Value Chain Development with demonstrable evidence of the results achieved. Experience in enterprise promotion, business advisory services, forward and backward linkages. Academic Qualification Should be a Postgraduate in Agri-business management / Agricultural Economics / Rural Management / Rural Marketing or MBA in Marketing from a reputed university/institute. Candidate with UG/PG in agriculture or veterinary science is desirable.
