Role
The Managing Associate will be responsible for managing client engagements which will be related to Direct Taxes (Corporate tax, Transfer Pricing, and International tax) and other related laws.
Job Responsibilities
1. The role involves providing consulting to clients of BMR Legal
2. Advise clients on complex direct tax issues, including corporate tax, M&A, restructuring, PE, and cross-border transactions.
3. Prepare detailed tax opinions, memoranda, presentations, and proposals for clients and internal stakeholders.
4. Assist in structuring transactions from a tax perspective and identifying tax-efficient solutions.
5. Handle direct tax litigation matters before the Assessing Officer, CIT(A), ITAT, High Court, and Supreme Court.
6. Prepare statements of facts, grounds of appeal, written submissions, and replies to notices.
7. Prepare briefing notes, charts, and paper books for hearings and coordinate with external counsel.
8. Oversee and review preparation of income-tax returns, TDS/TCS compliances, and other statutory filings.
9. Ensure timely compliance with advance tax, self-assessment tax, and other direct tax obligations.
10. Manage and supervise tax audits, transfer pricing documentation, and other compliance assignments.
11. Conduct in-depth research on emerging tax issues, amendments, and case law, and prepare internal notes and client alerts.
12. Stay updated on changes in direct tax laws, circulars, CBDT instructions, and international tax developments.
13. Contribute to the firm's knowledge base and training materials on direct tax topics.
Requirements
Educational & Professional Qualifications
Qualified Chartered Accountant
LLB (desirable, but not mandatory)
Sound knowledge of the Income-tax Act, 1961, Rules, case law, and allied statutes (e.g., FEMA, Companies Act, SEBI, etc.)
Technical Skills
Strong command over the Income-tax Act, 1961, including provisions on capital gains, business income, international taxation, and tax treaties.
Practical experience in direct tax advisory, litigation, and compliance in a professional services environment.
Familiarity with transfer pricing, FEMA, and corporate law
