Taxation Specialist - Australian FBT & Direct Tax Compliance!This role supports the Australian tax team of a mining manufacturing company by managing data preparation and compliance activities for Income Tax, Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), and Payroll Taxation
, operating from Chennai. The professional will consolidate and review financial and employee-related data for tax filings, assist in FBT calculations, and perform contractor reviews to ensure proper payroll tax treatment. The role involves working closely with finance, HR, and payroll teams to ensure data accuracy and adherence to
ATO requirements. It also requires supporting audits, maintaining documentation, and proactively tracking changes in Australian tax regulations. Strong coordination, attention to detail, and working knowledge of Australian tax frameworks and ERP systems are critical to success. Location is Chennai, India.
Responsibilities

Support the Australian corporate tax team by coordinating and validating data inputs required for Income Tax returns, including tax packs, trial balances, and fixed asset registers from multiple business units.*
Prepare and review Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) working papers by consolidating employee benefit data (e.g. motor vehicle usage, travel, relocation), liaising with HR and payroll functions to ensure completeness and accuracy.*
Conduct periodic contractor reviews and payroll tax compliance checks, verifying contractor vs employee classifications in line with Australian state payroll tax regulations

Act as the key point of contact for tax data management from Chennai, ensuring audit trails, reconciliations, and timely submissions aligned with ATO and business deadlines.*
Coordinate with Australian tax and finance teams, external advisors, and internal auditors to support tax assessments, reviews, and reconciliations.*
Monitor tax regulation changes (Income Tax, FBT, payroll tax) and proactively flag implications or required data/process adjustments.*
Contribute to process improvement and standardisation initiatives in offshore tax support operations.*
Qualifications we seek in you!

Minimum Qualifications
CA Inter, CPA Australia (partial or qualified), or M.Com/B.Com with strong tax compliance exposure.*
Good years of relevant experience in Australian direct tax compliance support, preferably in a mining, manufacturing, or shared services environment

Sound understanding of Fringe Benefits Tax regulations, employee benefit valuation, and payroll tax compliance principles in Australia.*
Familiarity with Income Tax reporting, contractor treatment, and experience handling ATO data and documentation requirements

Preferred Qualifications/ SkillsStrong hands-on skills in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel (lookups, pivot tables, reconciliation templates).
Excellent communication and coordination skills, capable of collaborating across geographies and functions.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing recurring compliance timelines independently with minimal oversight.
Flexible to work partially aligned with
