Position: HOD - SMS (Steel Melting Shop)
Department: Steel Melting Shop (Production & Maintenance)
Location: YSPL
Plant Capacity: 6 Ton x 2 Furnaces + 12 Ton x 1 Furnace
Reporting to: Plant Head / Unit Head
Employment Type: Full Time - On Roll

Key Responsibilities:

Overall in-charge of SMS operations and maintenance of 2 x 6 Ton and 1 x 12 Ton Induction Furnaces.

Plan, organize, and control the entire SMS department to achieve daily, monthly, and annual production targets.

Ensure smooth operation of furnaces, cranes, water cooling systems, ladle handling, casting, and related equipment.

Optimize raw material consumption, power utilization, and furnace productivity.

Maintain coordination between Production, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Quality, and Safety departments.

Monitor furnace performance, tapping, slag control, lining life, and heat quality.

Implement preventive and predictive maintenance plans in coordination with technical teams.

Ensure proper manpower utilization and skill development of operators and technicians.

Strictly enforce safety protocols and statutory compliance.

Plan and execute shutdown activities and major repair/overhauling schedules.

Prepare production and downtime reports, maintain MIS, and ensure adherence to production planning.

Implement cost control, process improvements, and energy-saving initiatives.

Lead and motivate the SMS team to meet performance and quality targets.

Qualification: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Electrical / Production Engineering.

Experience: Minimum 10-15 years in Steel Melting Shop (Induction Furnace) with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role as HOD / Sr. Manager.

In-depth knowledge of 6 Ton and 12 Ton Induction Furnace operations.

Strong knowledge of melting, tapping, slag management, lining practices, and ladle handling.

Good leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Familiar with safety procedures, production planning, and statutory compliances.
