Economist Impact\xe2\x80\x99s Policy & Insights team specialises in delivering research and engagement programmes that use evidence and data to drive change on the critical economic and public policy issues facing our world. Our clients include government bodies, international organisations and corporates, and we provide evidence, insights and advice to shape their policies and programmes.

Economist Impact\xe2\x80\x99s Policy & Insights team in Gurgaon is looking for a Manager to work within an internationally-focused and diverse team. The successful candidate will support our consulting and research projects with strong public policy and thought leadership components.

Our four core thematic practice areas include (1) Health, (2) Globalisation, Trade & Finance, (3) Sustainability, Climate Change & Natural Resources, and (4) Technology and Society. We also deliver work on a wide range of issue areas aligned with sustainable development goals, including education, migration, future of work and international development. We are open to candidates that want to work across these themes, or specialise in one to two themes.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

Project execution

  • Develop quantitative and qualitative methodologies and research techniques to drive new, analytic insights on key policy and research questions
  • Act as project manager for multiple projects simultaneously
  • Deliver projects to strict deadlines and within budget
  • Present interim project status and final project deliverables to clients
Management
  • Manage Analysts, including planning and overseeing the project resourcing and career development of team member(s);
  • Support Regional Director & Team Lead(s) in regional resource (staff) assignments for both business development and project delivery.
  • Manage all aspects of project delivery such as client relations, team management, research oversight and quality assurance
Capacity Building
  • Coach, train and mentor other team members in matters of career and personal development.
  • Develop methods and approaches for research/services that will help to scale up the Public Policy & Insights business and to ensure consistent quality of output.
Business development
  • Actively support business development activities through the generation of compelling proposals for new business development.
  • Work with the sales team and support senior managers and directors in the region to prepare scoping documents and proposals for potential clients, meet with clients, help to interpret their requirements and design programs and methodologies
Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role include:
  • Five years or more of consulting, think tank or other research experience with some experience in a Managerial position
  • Masters degree with public policy or economic policy focus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to translate complex research and analysis into clear and jargon-free prose highlighting key findings and policy analysis
  • Strong policy analysis skills; ability to resolve complex and unfamiliar problems in a timely manner
  • Client management experience; comfortable with client interaction and interest in building relationships
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create easy working relationships with clients, partners and the internal team
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead project teams and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to develop business from new and / or existing client accounts
  • Energy and desire to grow as part of a highly entrepreneurial team
