Job Summary


Lawyer for handling content in JioHotstar. The role involves providing expert legal counsel on a wide array of transactional and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities

1. Transactional / Contracts


The role requires being responsible for the entire lifecycle of various commercial transactions. This includes structuring, drafting, negotiating, and closing a wide range of agreements, including the following:
o

Content License Agreements:

Securing the rights to content from third-party producers and distributors.
o

Production Agreements:

Managing legal aspects of content creation, including co-production and commissioning deals.
o

Format Agreements:

Licensing the rights to show formats and intellectual property.
o

Marketing Agreements:

Negotiating and finalizing agreements for promotional campaigns.
o

Artist/Talent Agreements:

Drafting contracts for on-screen talent, artists, and other creative professionals.
o

Music License Agreements:

Acquiring the necessary rights for the use of music in content.

2. Regulatory Understanding


A core part of this role is having a deep and practical understanding of the digital media and technology space, with a specific focus on the regulatory framework in India, and staying current on evolving laws, guidelines, and industry standards in India and globally. This includes being familiar with:
o

IT Act & Rules:

Regulations governing digital platforms, content and grievance redressal.
o

Intellectual Property Laws:

Protection of copyrights, trademarks, and other proprietary assets.
o

Data Privacy & Consumer Protection:

Ensuring compliance with relevant data protection and consumer rights laws.
o

AI Use in content:

Ensuring use of artificial intelligence is secure and in compliance with law.

Skills & Attributes for success

Good organizational and interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively within a team and a fast-paced dynamic business environment. Strong drafting and negotiating skills, commercial deal making skills and good understanding of copyright and general contract laws. Anticipates potential barriers and develops alternate strategies; formulates an informed action plan to solve the problem. Excellent communications skills and the ability to communicate legal issues and solutions in an articulate, precise and effective manner. Leverages business understanding / functional expertise to deliver value to business. Able to interface with people across all levels in the organization.

Preferred Education & Experience

4-7 years of experience Prior work experience in IP or digital sector preferred
