The Senior Archivist will work as a part of the team under the guidance of the Head of the Archives on research, identification and acquisition. They will take a hands-on approach in acquiring and managing collections. They should have an in-depth understanding of archival processes such as documentation, digitisation, digital collection management, conservation of physical material (documents, audio-visual material as well as other objects) and long-term preservation. They may need to convert digital material produced into a variety of formats, including photographs, documents, recordings and film and preservation of these materials in a digital format for long-term storage. They will organize records, make inventories and write descriptions of the collections, which researchers may use to locate materials. They will be sharing responsibilities of day-to-day management of the Archives and various research and storytelling projects. The person appointed for this role will need to travel to distant cities/towns (within India) for material collection. They may have to lift heavy objects and work in a dusty environment.


Strategic Role:


To help develop, implement and review


Multi-year strategic and implementation plans

Archival policies and guidelines

Plans for outreach and donor management including writing periodic reports


Administrative Role:


Hands-on work on acquisition, retrieval, organisation and cataloging of materials including text, visual and audio material for the archive

Hands-on work on digitisation of analogue material, annotations and metadata, archiving existing material in digital format

Maintenance of the physical archive, updating and managing digital content on web platforms

Liaison with software developers to maintain and further develop the content management system and the online archive

Liaison with vendors for various project related needs

Represent the team at various public events

Supervise junior team members, interns, and volunteers

Coordinate with the internal teams and external researchers to provide archival assistance and material retrieval


Qualifications and Training:


Post graduate degree in Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences (preference will be given to degree in Archival Studies/ Museology/ Digital Humanities or related subjects)

A professional degree or equivalent in museology/ archiving/ conservation.

10+ years of experience of working with institutional archives; at least 5 years of lead/ senior role with administrative and supervision experience will be preferred

Experience of working inside the archive department of a corporate is preferable.

Proven skill and experience in digitisation and digital collection management.

Experience in supporting curatorial and exhibition projects.


An interest and awareness of history and value of archives, strong administrative skills, high IT literacy, ability to work in a team, strong written and verbal communication skills are all essential for this position.
