The Manager, IT, Data Science and Business Intelligence holds a unique role in FedEx Supply chain in responsibility to provide initiative, innovation, and lead both the data science and business intelligence teams. Grow and Lead team of data engineers and data scientists that build feature engineering solutions, train, test and deploy machine learning models on Cloud based platforms. Lead team of business intelligence analysts to build artifacts (reports and portals) providing useful information to business partners and customers. Integrates work of both data science and business intelligence teams to deliver descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive data and information for our business partners and customers. Lead the resolution of complex problems. Mentor development of those in less senior positions. Leads and works with cross-functional teams in a global environment.
Primary Responsibilities

• 
  Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to hiring, coaching, skill development, recognitions and rewards, staff productivity and performance management to include disciplinary actions up to and including termination.
• Provide leadership and initiative in a team environment.
• Takes ownership and responsibility over major data science and business intelligence initiatives.
• Stands up data analytics team through hiring, mentoring and leading talented resources.
• Manages team to lead modeling and development to support operations initiatives, strategic programs, and new products/solutions, through the use of advanced descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive and ensemble modeling, advanced statistical techniques, and complex mathematical modeling/tool development.
• Develops solutions supporting the movement of data and information assets following API-First / Service-Oriented Architecture principles.
• Leverages proficiency in ML Ops, CI/CD processes and machine learning / data engineering practices to ensure sustainable model development and provide recommendations on highly complex problems.
• Mentors team members to drive results.
• Advise in the application of modern architectures, principles, methodologies, tools, and systemic processes to support the launch of new business capabilities.
• Lead the resolution of complex problems. Escalate issues to Managing Director level as required.
• Communicate effectively, manage conflict amongst team members, and remove impediments.
• Provides guidance to less experienced personnel.
• Possesses an advanced understanding of the organization’s products and services.
• Subject matter expert in a variety of field's concepts, practices and procedures.
• Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish tasks.
• Works under minimal supervision.
• Performs complex tasks/multi-tasks.
• Overall creativity and latitude are expected.

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in related Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems and/or equivalent training in related field preferred and 8 years of relevant experience.
• In lieu of degree, high school diploma or GED and 10 years of relevant experience.
• Two (2) years of management experience desired.
• Have experience and knowledge of supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms, machine learning and analytics libraries in python and spark.
• Technical background in computer science, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, or other quantitative and computational science
• A compelling track record of Data Science / Engineer expertise, designing and deploying large scale technical solutions, which deliver tangible, ongoing value
• Direct experience having built and deployed robust, complex production systems through Cloud technologies that implement modern, data scientific methods at scale
• Ability to context-switch, to provide support to dispersed teams which may need an “expert hacker” to unblock an especially challenging technical obstacle
• Demonstrated ability to deliver technical projects with a team, often working under tight time constraints to deliver value
• An ‘engineering’ mindset, willing to make rapid, pragmatic decisions to improve performance, accelerate progress or magnify impact
• Ability to work with distributed teams on code-based deliverables using version control
• Solid theoretical grounding in the mathematical core of the major ideas in data science
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
