Job Summary



We are seeking a skilled and experienced Risk and Control manager to document and maintain process and controls documentation for the financial control team within GCFO. The candidate should have a deep understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements for internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) which have been encapsulated within the bank's financial reporting controls framework (FRCF). The candidate will be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks and enhancing the internal control environment within GCFO. This role requires a deep understanding of financial reporting processes, risk management, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities


Report to the team lead will oversee the following activities performed by the team:



Training & Education: Help first line control owners understand and meet regulatory requirements relating to ICOFR either by helping to deliver existing training materials for ICOFR or by setting up bespoke training for first line control and process managers/owners. Remediation: Help first line control owners to remediate controls that fail design or operating effectiveness testing Control design and implementation - Work with first line control owners to design and implement robust internal controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting. Evaluate existing internal controls and implement improvements to enhance control effectiveness. Control documentation - Work with and assist first line teams to ensure controls are properly documented and maintained. Reporting and Communication: Act as the primary liaison with the Finance Risk & Governance team for the completion of FRCF lifecycle activities on behalf of GCFO. Help Finance Risk and Governance team coordinate and manage control testing activities with first line control owners. Work with the second line Finance Risk & Governance team to help ensure all issues and control deficiencies are logged within the bank's strategic GRC tooling and the impact on ICOFR is risk assessed.

Strategy



To help GCFO first line teams so they can comply with regulatory requirements prescribed within the UK Corporate Governance Code for internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR).


Business



The successful candidate will be working with colleagues across GCFO, Finance Risk & Governance and business stakeholders across the wider bank to successfully implement controls that help GCFO meet ICOFR requirements.


Processes



Within GCFO Financial Control work to:



Design and implement robust internal controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting. Evaluate existing internal controls and recommend improvements to enhance control effectiveness. Work with process owners to update process and controls documentation to reflect changes in business process or supporting technology/ systems. Work with process owners to ensure that controls that fail design or operating effectiveness testing are suitably remediated

People & Talent



Help upskill GCFO staff, so they understand ICOFR requirements and best practices. The candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written English) as well as networking and negotiation skills. Maintain a positive attitude with the motivation to work under pressure and deliver on multiple deadlines.


Risk Management



Help the team lead to ensure that GCFO Financial Control complies with regulatory requirements prescribed within the UK Corporate Governance Code for internal controls over financial reporting by ensuring process and controls documentation is regularly updated and defective controls are remediated. Work with the second line Finance Risk & Governance team to help ensure all issues and control deficiencies are logged within the bank's strategic GRC tooling and the impact on ICOFR is risk assessed.


Governance



Support the team lead with providing inputs to the Finance Risk & Governance team for governance papers including information to populate supporting dashboards and metrics on all FRCF Lifecycle activities that impact Group Finance.

Qualifications


Qualified risk practioner or professional Finance qualification Minimum of 2 years of experience in risk management, internal controls, auditing, or a related field, with a focus on SOX compliance. In-depth knowledge of SOX regulations, internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), and financial reporting processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organisation. Proficiency in using risk management and audit software tools. High level of integrity, ethical standards, and attention to detail.
