The Position Manager - Engineering Projects - will act as the global engineering manager for the key Global engineering projects to support growth initiatives, special projects in terms of capabilities, technical productivity, process improvement, etc. The position will cater both Pre-order and Post order Engineering activities. This position will report to the Director, Global Engineering, WS/WSS - Application/Support Hubs in close contact with the Global stake holders and engineering teams.
Manager engineering projects will work as SME (subject matter expert) working closely with global engineering teams and help to create SME structure for Engineering organization globally under guidance of Director. This position will work actively on key growth engineering projects like vendor assessment for technical production, Engineering Center capability development (Mexico, India, etc.), Global Engineering processes to facilitate global Engineering, production locations, Standardization projects, etc. to improve capability as well as productivity.
Accountable for timely closure of global engineering projects working closely with global key stake holders.
This position will collaborate and interact extensively with Engineering, project management, supply chain, operations for all kind engineering and improvement Projects. The position will also ensure functional excellence across the global org looking at the training needs and working / supporting on necessary initiatives.
Responsibilities:

  • Act as SME and work on global engineering projects related to capability development, Engineering process improvement, technical productivity enhancement, standardization, etc.
  • Accountable for on time completion of Engineering projects reviewing with leadership and key stake holders.
  • Work closely with managers of engineering org for capability development and chalk out SME structure identifying key SMEs and their development plan. Track the progress periodic and seek help for progress as needed from leadership.
  • Work on key standardization projects to help business to improve the speed and delivery.
  • Identify and influence key decision makers of projects to roll out the project implementation.
  • Should carry out risk assessment as appropriate for the project.
  • Should be capable to work globally adjusting with different time zones to support global teams and ready for short business travels.
  • Recognizes the need and can provide training and guidance to develop the capabilities of the Engineers.
  • Should keep tab of new technologies / software for exploration of new ways for work execution.
  • Evaluate customer requirements, able to research the necessary data, and determine efficient processes as needed.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with customers, engineering teams and cross functional personnel and vendors providing counseling, recommendations, and technical assistance.
  • Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Additional duties as assigned time to time.
Specific Duties, Activities & Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
  • Distil best practices for achieving growth and help replicate best practices on a worldwide basis.
  • Support regional strategic projects, propose specific project strategy and co-ordinate internal activities.
  • Working directly with all internal stakeholders and align with them to meet business expectation.
  • Work, support and implement key standardization and automation projects as assigned to drive engineering excellence and increased productivity and contribute to cost reduction.
  • Preparing and maintaining project progress fortnightly dashboard, and monthly reports as required to achieve the desired results.
  • Ensure that the company policies followed, and values practiced.
EHS Requirements:
  • Additional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon company needs
  • Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Company's goals
  • Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook
  • Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company's environmental performance goals
  • Complete, and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements
Work Environment:
Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.
Qualifications
Position Requirements (Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
  • A Bachler or master's degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline (Mechanical / Chemical/Instrumentation) with 15 + years' experience in engineering, or similar functions.
  • At least 10+ year engineering experience with at least 5 + years of Supervisor / team leader experience
  • Domain knowledge in process equipment and seal systems in Polymer, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Aerospace, Refinery and Turbomachinery areas
  • Working knowledge of how the mechanical seal business and markets work, and how to create growth through engineering processes and products
  • Good understanding of engineering process needs in design and operations, key business drivers and industry practices
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate strategies and drive a coordinated action plan.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to prioritize and communicate clearly across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven work environment, attention to detail, and multitasking are essential.
  • An ability to work in an international environment with functional teams spread over various regions including corresponding willingness to limited travel
  • Self-starter and highly motivated to achieve results with limited direct supervision.
  • Excellent people skills and proven ability to lead a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, a proficiency in MS Office,
