The Role
This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction in maintaining all electrical installations and automation components of port equipment. The key objective is to ensure maximum equipment availability, reliability, and readiness through effective maintenance, upgrades, and repairs. The role directly contributes to operational continuity and delivering excellent service to shipping lines calling at the port.
Additionally, this role contributes to strategic planning by balancing operational opportunities with available resources, supporting the terminal's long-term growth and efficiency.
Critical Success Factors
Ensure reliable electrical services for uninterrupted operations by maintaining power supply for:
Electrical Distribution Systems (220 KV SS, Reefers SS, 11 KV SS, CPP, etc.)
RMQC, RTG, RMGC & PHC cranes
Weighbridges, Bagging Machines, and In-Motion Weighbridges
Colony, offices, guesthouses, warehouses, and factory infrastructure.
Minimize downtime of electrical equipment with robust preventive maintenance schedules and power management.
Maintain adequate spares and inventory in coordination with the Stores Department.
Ensure the safety of all personnel and equipment at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Execute planned and breakdown maintenance of electrical systems across Container and General Cargo Terminals.
Troubleshoot, fault-find, and carry out modifications for substations and other installations.
Ensure strict adherence to safety standards for high-tension electrical systems.
Provide accurate budget inputs for procurement, operation, maintenance, and upgrades.
Drive process improvement and modernization, addressing obsolescence and adopting new technologies.
Monitor recurring defects, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance with asset management policies.
Support KPI analysis in collaboration with Business Process teams.
Lead, develop, and train team members, ensuring round-the-clock staff availability.
Investigate and report incidents/accidents, implementing preventive measures.
Liaise with government electrical authorities and maintain compliance with statutory requirements.
Uphold housekeeping, safety, and continuous improvement culture in line with APMT world standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
B.E. / Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the operation, maintenance, and support of:
High and Low Tension (HT/LT) electrical installations.
220 KV substations, switchgear, and protection systems.
Transformers, distribution panels, captive power plants, and DG sets.
Large industrial/port/utility environments.
Specialized Knowledge:
Expertise in substation operations and maintenance (up to 220 KV).
Strong knowledge of transformer testing, panels, LT/HT switchgear, and power distribution networks.
Hands-on experience with captive power plants and genset operations.
Proficiency in fault diagnosis, protection relay coordination, and preventive maintenance planning.
Experience liaising with state electricity boards and ensuring compliance with HT installations.
Working knowledge of international electrical and safety codes.
Proficiency in MS Office and engineering software.
Preferred:
Experience in crane erection/commissioning and 220KV switchyard operations.

This role is fully responsible for meeting and exceeding performance targets set by the Senior Manager (Electrical & Instrumentation), ensuring operational readiness, compliance, and cost efficiency.
