Education Qualification: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or higher with minimum 12 years of relevant experience.



A talented, versatile, and hands-on Functional Payments Expert responsible for devising and delivering cutting-edge, innovative payment solutions. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with strong awareness of payments industry trends, bank processing models, payment security, and end-to-end transaction lifecycles.

Strong business acumen, positive work ethics, and a collaborative mindset are key to success in this role. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams including business, product, analytics, UX, and engineering, requiring excellent articulation, negotiation, and influencing skills due to high stakeholder visibility.

This role acts as a bridge between business, product, and implementation teams, translating business needs into scalable, high-performance payment solutions. The individual is expected to be an effective leader, mentor, and thought leader, contributing to future-ready payment architectures and strategies.

The role combines functional design leadership, solution selling, and client-facing engagement, requiring deep working knowledge of payments and modern distributed system architectures.

Your future duties and responsibilities




Lead functional design and solution definition for complex payment systems, translating business requirements into scalable and resilient functional solutions

Act as a bridge between business, product, and engineering teams, ensuring alignment across requirements, design, and implementation

Drive requirement elicitation, analysis, and documentation, including BRDs, functional specifications, process flows, data/message mappings, and user stories

Own end-to-end functional design for payment flows, including initiation, validation, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, and exception handling

Define and review functional decomposition aligned to microservices and domain-driven design principles

Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to ensure functional designs align with microservices, Kafka-based event flows, and catching strategies

Validate functional designs against non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, resiliency, security, and regulatory compliance

Support FAT, UAT, and implementation phases, including scenario definition, validation support, and issue analysis

Provide functional guidance during production issue analysis and root cause investigations, especially for payment failures and reconciliation breaks

Engage directly with clients and senior stakeholders, presenting designs, explaining solution options, and influencing design decisions

Contribute to solution selling and pre-sales activities, including proposal support, solution walkthroughs, and client discussions

Mentor junior functional designers and analysts, promoting best practices and thought leadership in payments design

Contribute to future-state architecture and product roadmap discussions, incorporating industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies

Ensure all functional artifacts are accurate, complete, and audit-ready, supporting operational and compliance needs

Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and cross-team design reviews

Required qualifications to be successful in this role




Must-Have Skills:

General / Functional Skills

Proven experience in product development with strong focus on functional design, decomposition, and solution definition
Strong UML modeling skills, preferably using Sparx Enterprise Architect
Ability to understand, analyze, and document business requirementsfrom diverse stakeholders
Expertise in Business Analysis, Requirement Elicitation, Gap & Impact Analysis, Message/Data Mapping, and FAT validation
Experience producing BRDs, Functional Specifications, Process Flow Diagrams, User Stories, Backlogs*, and related artifacts

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong client-facing experience*, including interaction with senior executives (internal and external)

Solid understanding of technical aspects of software products*, including:

Interfaces & APIs Connectivity & integration patterns Databases Application servers & middleware SOA and distributed systems Data warehousing, archival, and purge strategies

Hands-on experience across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Strong working knowledge of Agile delivery models


Payments Domain Expertise

Extensive experience in payments-related software development projects or products
Strong proficiency in SWIFT, SWIFT GPI, NACHA, CHAPS
Hands-on experience with Clearing & Settlement Systems across Europe, Canada, and the US
Experience working with at least two clearing systems in different countries
Proven track record of product or project implementation in medium to large-scale banks
Architecture & Technology (Key Additions)

Strong working knowledge of Microservices Architecture*, including:

Service decomposition and domain-driven design concepts API-driven integration and service orchestration Resilience, scalability, and fault-tolerance considerations in payment systems

Working understanding of event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka*, including:

Event streaming concepts Topic design and message flows Use of Kafka in high-throughput, low-latency payment processing

Working understanding of in-memory data grids / caching solutions such as Hazelcast*, including:

Distributed caching patterns State management in microservices Performance optimization and high availability considerations

Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams to ensure functional designs align with scalable, performant system architectures


Good-to-Have Skills:

Experience with SWIFT Service Bureauimplementations
Exposure to product roadmap planning and DevOps strategies
Site implementation experience with leading payment products such as Fundtech or Clear2Pay
Experience representing organizations in external forums, industry panels, or conferences
Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and operational readiness for payment platforms
