Night Shift (On-Call/Fixed Night Duty)
Role Summary
The Lab Technician will be responsible for the
timely collection, safe handling, and accurate processing of cadaver donor samples
during night hours to support urgent transplant diagnostics. This role requires high attention to detail, adherence to biosafety protocols, and the ability to coordinate with transplant teams, logistics partners, and internal laboratory personnel.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sample Collection & Coordination
Respond to
cadaver sample collection requests
from hospitals during night hours.
Coordinate with
hospital transplant coordinators, ICU teams, and morgue staff
for smooth and respectful sample pickup.
Ensure
proper labelling, documentation, and chain-of-custody
as per transplant SOPs.
Arrange and verify
transport logistics
(in-house team or third-party courier) for urgent delivery to the lab.
2. Sample Handling & Processing
Receive, register, and verify cadaver samples in the LIS/LIMS.
Perform
pre-analytical processing
including aliquoting, centrifugation, DNA extraction, or HLA sample preparation as per protocol.
Adhere to
ABO typing, HLA typing, crossmatch, and infectious disease screening
pre-analytical requirements.
Maintain cold chain integrity for samples requiring controlled temperature.
3. Quality & Compliance
Follow
NABL, CAP, and internal Quality Management System (QMS)
guidelines.
Ensure strict compliance with
biosafety levels
, PPE usage, and cadaver sample handling ethics.
Maintain accurate logs for sample status, processing timelines, and deviations (if any).
Report any non-conformities, equipment issues, or delays to the Lab Manager.
4. Shift & Operational Support
Ensure
round-the-clock readiness
during the shift for emergency calls.
Provide handover reports to morning duty staff.
Support inventory management for night shift supplies (kits, consumables, PPE, transport media).
Assist in maintenance of equipment involved in pre-analytical processes (centrifuges, refrigerators, biosafety cabinets).
