The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of plastic moulding machines and auxiliary equipment to ensure uninterrupted production. The role ensures preventive maintenance, minimizes machine downtime, and leads a team of technicians to maintain optimal performance of injection/blow/extrusion moulding operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Supervise maintenance activities for moulding machines (injection/blow/extrusion).
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and ensure timely repair.
Oversee maintenance of auxiliary equipment: chillers, compressors, dryers, mold temperature controllers, conveyors, grinders, etc.
Coordinate with production to resolve machine breakdowns quickly and efficiently.
2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
Prepare and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment.
Conduct regular inspection of machines to identify early signs of wear, leakage, overheating, or malfunction.
Maintain maintenance logs, machine history reports, and downtime records.
Recommend and plan long-term predictive maintenance to reduce failures.
3. Mould & Tool Maintenance
Ensure proper installation, alignment, and changeover of moulds/tools.
Inspect moulds regularly and coordinate polishing, cleaning, and minor repairs.
Maintain mould storage, documentation, and preventive maintenance of moulds.
4. Team Leadership & Coordination
Lead, supervise, and guide maintenance technicians/fitters/electricians.
Allocate daily tasks, monitor job completion, and ensure adherence to safety standards.
Conduct training for operators on basic machine care and emergency handling.
5. Inventory & Spare Parts Management
Monitor stock levels of spare parts, consumables, and tools.
Coordinate procurement of required parts in consultation with the maintenance manager.
Maintain accurate inventory records to avoid machine downtime due to shortages.
6. Safety & Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities follow safety protocols and regulatory standards.
Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and implement corrective actions.
Promote good housekeeping and compliance with ISO, TPM, or 5S practices (if applicable).
7. Continuous Improvement
Suggest and implement improvements to reduce downtime and improve machine efficiency.
Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and optimize machine performance.
Support production and engineering teams in process optimization initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma / ITI / BE in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field.
3-7 years of maintenance experience in plastic moulding (injection/blow/extrusion).
Strong knowledge of moulding machines (e.g., Ferromatik, Haitian, L&T, Milacron, Engel, etc.).
Hands-on experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC systems, and mechanical assemblies.
Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings.
Strong troubleshooting, team-management, and communication skills.
