The Machine Fitter / Turner is responsible for operating, fitting, assembling, and maintaining mechanical parts and machinery using tools such as lathes, milling machines, and drilling machines. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, carrying out machining operations, assembling components, and ensuring the smooth functioning of production equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job specifications.
Set up, operate, and maintain lathe, milling, shaping, and drilling machines.
Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, and other precision machining operations.
Fit and assemble mechanical parts and components with accuracy.
Conduct inspection and measurement using vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools.
Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of machines.
Identify faults, dismantle defective parts, and replace/repair as required.
Ensure machines and tools are properly calibrated and maintained.
Adhere to safety protocols and maintain housekeeping in the workshop.
Collaborate with supervisors and engineers to improve machine efficiency and reduce downtime.
Record job work done and maintain production/maintenance logs.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of lathe and turning operations.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and mechanical diagrams.
Hands-on skills in fitting, assembly, and machine maintenance.
Familiarity with machining tolerances and quality standards.
Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
Knowledge of safety standards in workshops.
Physical stamina and attention to detail.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
ITI / Diploma in Fitter, Turner, or Machinist Trade (Mechanical).
Experience:
1-2 years of experience in machining, fitting, or mechanical maintenance in a manufacturing/engineering industry.
Fresh ITI graduates may also be considered for trainee positions.
