The Logistics Manager (Trucks & Trailers Division) will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the company's trucking and trailer operations. This includes fleet utilization, scheduling, routing, maintenance coordination, cost optimization, driver management, and compliance with transport regulations. The role ensures efficient movement of goods while maintaining safety, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fleet Operations Management
Plan and monitor daily operations of trucks and trailers for inbound and outbound movement.
Optimize vehicle routing, scheduling, and load planning to maximize fleet utilization.
Track fleet performance through GPS systems and ensure minimal idle time.
Manage breakdowns, delays, and rerouting effectively.
2. Driver Management
Supervise and allocate drivers for trips ensuring compliance with duty hours.
Monitor driver performance, fuel efficiency, and adherence to safety protocols.
Conduct periodic training on road safety, defensive driving, and company policies.
Maintain records of licenses, permits, and renewals.
3. Maintenance & Compliance
Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance schedules with the workshop/garage team.
Ensure all trucks and trailers are roadworthy with valid permits, fitness certificates, and insurance.
Implement compliance with transport laws, RTO regulations, and safety norms.
Monitor fuel consumption, mileage, and preventive maintenance costs.
4. Cost & Process Optimization
Monitor transport costs (fuel, maintenance, tolls, repairs) and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Negotiate with vendors, service providers, and spare parts suppliers.
Develop KPIs for fleet efficiency (cost per km/ton, turnaround time, downtime).
Implement digital systems for trip planning, expense tracking, and driver settlements.
5. Coordination & Reporting
Liaise with operations, warehouse, and customers for timely delivery of goods.
Resolve customer complaints related to transport delays, damages, or shortages.
Maintain MIS reports on fleet utilization, delivery performance, and expenses.
Report incidents/accidents, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Key Skills & Competencies
In-depth knowledge of truck and trailer operations, routing, and load management.
Strong understanding of RTO norms, transport laws, and safety compliance.
Proficiency in GPS tracking systems, fleet management software, and ERP tools.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in dynamic conditions.
Leadership, negotiation, and team management abilities.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transport Management, or related field.
7-10 years of experience in transport/logistics, with at least 3 years managing truck & trailer fleets.
Experience in
steel, construction materials, or heavy-load industry logistics
preferred.
Valid knowledge of transport documentation, permits, and compliance requirements.
