Linux SME -

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience with Linux systems and a proven track record of leading and mentoring technical teams. As a Linux SME and Technical Team Lead, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our Linux infrastructure, while also providing technical guidance and leadership to a team of skilled engineers.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex Linux-related issues. Provide expert-level guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level Linux engineers. Lead the planning, design, and execution of Linux-based projects, ensuring best practices and scalability. Conduct technical reviews of system designs and implementations to ensure adherence to standards and performance requirements. Foster a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the team.

System Architecture & Design:

Architect, implement, and optimize highly available, scalable, and secure Linux environments. Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance our Linux infrastructure.

System Administration & Operations:

Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux servers (physical and virtual) in a production environment. Perform system installations, configurations, patching, and upgrades. Manage and optimize system performance, including CPU, memory, I/O, and network utilization. Implement and manage system security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection, and access controls. Oversee backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and availability. Automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible). Participate in on-call rotations for critical system support.

Collaboration & Communication:

Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including development, networking, and security, to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Lead technical discussions and present solutions to management and peers.

Required Skills & Experience:

10+ years of extensive experience with various Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE). Deep understanding of Linux internals, including kernel, file systems, process management, and networking. Strong expertise in system automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack). Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl. Extensive experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, OpenStack). Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, Load Balancing). Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is highly desirable. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and perform root cause analysis. Strong understanding of security best practices for Linux environments. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Red Hat Certified Engineer/Architect, Linux Foundation Certified Engineer). Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack). Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies. * Experience in a large-scale enterprise environment.
