The Linux & OpenShift Infrastructure Engineer (L2/L3) is responsible for the complete lifecycle management, security, administration, and optimization of Linux-based and containerized environments. This hybrid role combines direct, hands-on technical support (L2) with platform architecture, automation, and sustained process improvement (L3), ensuring high availability, compliance, and advancement of business-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
Core Server & Platform Management
Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.).
Conduct lifecycle management--including minor/major upgrades--for both RHEL and OpenShift clusters.
Monitor system and cluster performance, proactively troubleshoot, and ensure optimal uptime.
Perform routine and emergency system upgrades, patching, and security hardening.
Lead master and node configuration, cluster onboarding/offboarding, and license/inventory management.
User, Access & Security Management
Administer user accounts, permissions, RBAC, authentication, and access controls for servers and container platforms.
Implement and enforce identity and access management (IAM) and compliance with internal and external standards.
Carry out vulnerability and security assessments, including image scanning and compliance via ACM/ACS.
Automate and maintain hardening guidelines following Infosec and regulatory standards.
Automation & Optimization
Automate routine tasks, monitoring, and patch management using Shell scripting, Ansible, and Python.
Build, optimize, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines (using Tekton or similar).
Scale worker nodes, optimize clusters (compute, storage, network), set/champion quotas and cluster metrics.
Drive ongoing automation for DR, backups, scaling, maintenance, health checks, and capacity planning.
Day-to-Day Operations & Incident Response
Respond to system alerts, incidents, and service requests--ensuring issues are triaged and resolved promptly.
Manage escalation paths, document all interventions, and ensure complete ticket/audit traceability.
Practice thorough, transparent handovers and maintain all SOP/documentation for compliance and continuity.
Participate in and lead disaster recovery drills, root cause analyses, and problem management.
Design, Deployment & Continuous Improvement
Lead infrastructure and container platform design, deployment, and migrations--on-premises or in the cloud.
Assess and onboard business applications for containerization, ensuring best practices and performance.
Enable Active/Active and DR (near/remote) usage scenarios, advise on platform/process optimization.
Integrate and fine-tune Service Mesh, storage, policy, and performance management at the platform level.
Client Interfacing & Team Enablement
Engage directly with clients for troubleshooting, upgrades, project delivery, DR, and compliance activities.
Support and deliver internal knowledge transfers, technical interviews, and mentoring for upskilling.
Recommend and implement process/tool improvements for higher efficiency and reliability.
Champion a culture of ownership, accountability, quality, and continuous learning.
Required Technical Competencies
Advanced expertise in RHEL, Linux, and OpenShift/Kubernetes.
Hands-on automation with Ansible, Shell, Python, and platforms like Red Hat Satellite.
Mastery of platform security, IAM, RBAC, monitoring, backup/DR, performance tuning, and compliance tooling.
End-to-end experience with CI/CD, cluster scaling, disaster recovery, and hybrid (on-prem/cloud) design.
Strong client interaction, documentation, incident, and escalation handling skills.
