Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Linux Desktop Engineer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of Linux-based desktop systems and related software, ensuring system performance, stability, and security for end-users.
Install, configure, and maintain Linux desktop environments (Ubuntu
etc.)
Troubleshoot user-reported issues on Linux systems
(hardware/software/network)
Perform user access management, permission settings, and desktop
application support
Set up and maintain system backups, user data, and recovery processes
Configure and manage printers, file shares, and remote desktop tools
Ensure endpoint security and compliance with organizational policies
Create and maintain system documentation, SOPs, and installation guides
Provide support via remote tools or in-person as required
Collaborate with network, server, and security teams for incident
resolution
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience with Linux desktop environments (Ubuntu, Fedora,
Debian, etc.)
Familiarity with shell scripting (Bash), package managers (apt, yum),
and system services
Strong knowledge of desktop troubleshooting, driver installations, and
user support
Experience with tools like VNC, SSH, Samba/NFS, LDAP, and remote
management
Good understanding of networking basics ? IP, DNS, DHCP, firewall rules
Experience with endpoint protection and patch management
Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred (Optional):
Certification in Linux (e.g., RHCSA, CompTIA Linux+)
Experience with managing Linux systems in an Active Directory
environment
Exposure to DevOps tools, version control (Git), or automation tools
like Ansible
