The School Librarian is responsible for managing the school library and ensuring that students and staff have access to a wide range of learning resources, including books, digital media, and other educational materials. The librarian promotes reading, research, and information literacy skills across all grades.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and organize the school library resources including books, periodicals, e-books, and digital databases.
Assist students and staff in locating and using library materials effectively.
Develop and promote library programs that encourage reading and research.
Maintain the library cataloguing system and keep accurate records of library inventory.
Select, acquire, and evaluate new library materials in line with curriculum needs and student interests.
Teach information literacy skills, including research strategies, digital citizenship, and proper citation methods.
Organize book fairs, reading programs, author visits, and other literacy-related events.
Monitor and enforce library rules to ensure a conducive learning environment.
Repair or replace damaged books and maintain the physical condition of the library.
Collaborate with teaching staff to support classroom learning with appropriate resources.
Stay updated on educational technology trends and incorporate them into library services.
Preferred Candidate Profile:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Library Science or Information Science (B.Lib / M.Lib).
Previous experience as a librarian in a school setting preferred.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Proficiency in library management software and digital resources.
A passion for reading, books, and promoting literacy among children.
Knowledge of educational trends, especially in digital learning and e-resources.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students.
