The Librarian is responsible for managing the school library, maintaining learning resources, supporting students and teachers in accessing information, and promoting reading habits across the school. The role requires strong organizational skills, a student-friendly attitude, and proficiency in library management practices.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Library Management
Maintain and update library catalogues, accession registers, and inventory records.
Ensure proper arrangement, classification, and shelving of books and learning materials.
Manage issue/return records using manual or digital library software.
Conduct annual stock verification and prepare reports.
Take responsibility for the safety, cleanliness, and organization of the library.
B. Student & Teacher Support
Assist students in locating books and reference material.
Guide students in research, project work, and reference skills.
Support teachers with reading materials, reference books, and resource planning.
Maintain a welcoming and disciplined environment for students.
C. Resource Development
Recommend new books, magazines, and digital learning resources for procurement.
Update library resources in line with curriculum requirements.
Maintain a record of damaged/lost books and take necessary action.
D. Reading Culture Promotion
Organize book fairs, reading weeks, storytelling sessions, and literary activities.
Prepare monthly reading lists and recommend age-appropriate books.
Encourage students to develop regular reading habits.
E. Administrative Responsibilities
Prepare monthly reports of library usage and resource requirements.
Maintain library budget records (if assigned).
Ensure compliance with CBSE/education board guidelines regarding library management.
Supervise library periods as per school timetable.
3. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Library Science (B.Lib / M.Lib).
Basic computer knowledge; familiarity with library management software (preferred).
Prior experience in a school library (preferred but not mandatory).

Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Good communication and student-interaction skills.
Patience, discipline, and student-friendly attitude.
Knowledge of children's literature and academic reference materials.
5. Working Hours
As per school's academic schedule.
