The Librarian will be responsible for the effective management and administration of the Library and Learning Resource Centre (LRC). This includes curating, organizing, and maintaining learning resources; conducting LRC sessions for students; fostering a culture of reading and research; and coordinating library-related events and activities. The incumbent should have prior experience in international schools and be adept at managing library systems aligned with global standards.
Key Responsibilities
Library & Resource Centre (LRC) Management
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school library/LRC.
Manage acquisition, cataloguing, classification, and circulation of books, e-resources, and digital content.
Ensure accessibility of resources to students and staff, both physical and digital.
Maintain an updated and diverse collection reflecting international curricula and global best practices.
Academic & Student Engagement
Plan and conduct LRC sessions to enhance students' reading, research, and referencing skills.
Design engaging reading programs, book clubs, author interactions, and literary activities.
Guide students and faculty in using reference materials, databases, and research tools.
Support teachers in integrating library resources into classroom teaching.
Administrative & Strategic Role
Develop library policies, SOPs, and usage guidelines in line with international school standards.
Manage budget allocation for library resources, subscriptions, and events.
Implement technology-enabled library systems (automation, digital library platforms, OPAC).
Conduct regular audits, MIS reports, and data analysis of library usage.
Supervise library staff/assistants and allocate responsibilities effectively.
Community & Events
Organize book fairs, reading weeks, and author visits to promote a reading culture.
Collaborate with external vendors, publishers, and educational bodies for resource procurement and partnerships.
Promote library as a knowledge hub for students, faculty, and parents.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of international curricula (IB / Cambridge / IGCSE).
Expertise in library management systems, cataloguing standards, and digital platforms.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to conduct engaging LRC sessions and workshops.
Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.
Passion for reading, literature, and promoting knowledge-sharing.
Qualification & Experience
Master's/Bachelor's degree in Library & Information Science (M.Lib/B.Lib) or equivalent.
Minimum 3-8 years of relevant experience, preferably in international schools.
Proven experience in managing a school library/LRC and conducting literacy/reading programs.
Familiarity with digital learning tools and educational technologies.
