plays a dual role in ensuring legal compliance and driving the organization's social and policy impact. This position will manage legal processes, support regulatory and policy alignment, liaise with government agencies and private developers/builders, and strengthen the organization's advocacy and social impact outcomes. The ideal candidate will bring a unique blend of legal acumen, stakeholder engagement, and development sector understanding.
Key Responsibilities:Legal & Compliance:
Provide legal counsel on matters relating to real estate, environmental regulations, land use, and governance.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, MoUs, and agreements with stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, and private developers.
Ensure organizational compliance with applicable laws, including FCRA, CSR laws, local building codes, and other statutory regulations.
Handle legal documentation, permits, and licenses required for infrastructure and development projects.
Government & Builder Interface:
Act as a liaison with local, state, and central government bodies to support collaborative projects.
Facilitate engagement with builders and private sector stakeholders, ensuring alignment with community impact goals and legal frameworks.
Represent the organization in public forums, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory discussions.
Impact Strategy & Advocacy:
Work closely with program and M&E teams to integrate legal and policy advocacy into impact initiatives.
Conduct legal research and policy analysis to inform the organization's strategic direction and campaigns.
Support the design and implementation of rights-based advocacy related to urban development, housing, land rights, and related issues.
Risk & Conflict Management:
Identify legal and reputational risks in projects and partnerships.
Mediate conflicts or legal disputes related to community development or builder compliance.
Develop risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with senior management.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law (LLB/LLM).
5-10 years of experience in legal advisory roles with a strong background in NGOs, public policy, or infrastructure sectors.
Experience working with government departments, policy makers, or urban/local governance institutions.
Exposure to working with builders, urban planners, or real estate professionals is a strong advantage.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and [local language].
Strong understanding of legal frameworks related to land, housing, CSR, environmental law, and public-private partnerships (PPPs).
