About AOP

: AOP (Allied Ophthalmic Paramedics) program or Certified Ophthalmic Paramedics (COP) program is specifically designed to train young women from underprivileged backgrounds, with the aim of improving the quality of ophthalmic services. We focus on training the AOPs to develop the necessary skills and empower them to effectively identify, screen, support, supplement, and streamline clinical workloads. By doing so, they contribute in boosting productivity, assisting ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals, and ultimately enhancing patient care in a cost-effective manner and thereby contribute towards reduction of avoidable blindness in their area.

Key Roles and Responsibilities



Deliver theoretical and practical training on patient education in ophthalmic care.

Teach students how to effectively communicate eye health information to patients and their families.

Train students in pre- and post-operative counseling for cataract, glaucoma, retinal, and other eye surgeries.

Educate students on common eye diseases, preventive eye care, and treatment compliance.

Guide students in developing patient education materials (pamphlets, charts, presentations, etc.).

Provide training on low vision counseling and rehabilitation support.

Conduct role-plays and simulated patient interaction sessions to build confidence and clarity.

Teach ethical communication, cultural sensitivity, and handling of patient concerns with empathy.

Supervise students during clinical practice and patient counseling sessions.

Evaluate students through written tests, practical demonstrations, and communication assessments.

Maintain student attendance records, skill checklists, and performance reports.

Update training content based on the latest guidelines in ophthalmic education and communication.

Encourage students to participate in eye camps, awareness drives, and community education events.

Mentor students for personal development and professional behavior.

Coordinate with hospital teams for practical exposure in OPD and surgical counseling areas.

Promote patient-centered care and ensure students understand the importance of health education.

Participate in quality reviews, curriculum development, and program planning.

Perform any other duties assigned by the Administrator or Management, including support in outreach, documentation, or interdepartmental collaboration.

Any other responsibilities to be added if any by the Administrator / Management



This may include involvement in admissions, orientation sessions, curriculum updates, report preparation, coordination with other departments, participation in audits, or support for outreach and institutional development activities.
