The Digital and Technology team at General Mills stands as the largest and foremost unit, dedicated to exploring the latest trends and innovations in technology while leading the adoption of cutting-edge technologies across the organization. Purpose of the role
The Lead Technical Architect for the BTFE mobile application will be responsible for defining, designing, and implementing the technical vision & architecture for the application. This role requires a deep understanding of mobile application development, cloud technologies, and security best practices. The architect will provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team, ensuring the application is scalable, performant, secure, and aligned with the overall business strategy. The primary goal is to deliver a high-quality, user-friendly mobile experience that meets the needs of BTFE users and supports the growth of the business. This includes proactively identifying and mitigating technical risks, managing technical debt, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
With advanced expertise across multiple technologies, they will guide full lifecycle development--from technical planning and design to implementation, deployment, and ongoing optimization. They will mentor developers, lead design discussions, and collaborate cross-functionally to align solutions with business objectives. The role also includes ownership of production stability, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to ensure reliability, scalability, and sustained technical excellence across all platforms.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead Architectural Design and Implementation: Define, design, and implement complex, scalable, and secure technical solutions across multiple business units, aligning with overall technology direction and strategic objectives. This includes creating and maintaining comprehensive architectural blueprints, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and best practices.
Technical Guidance and Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and guidance to mid- and junior-level engineers. This includes conducting architecture reviews, delivering technical talks and workshops, fostering knowledge sharing, and driving skill development within the team.
Technology Strategy and Innovation: Identify and evaluate emerging technologies, recommending solutions to address business needs and improve efficiency. Actively participate in technology strategy discussions, contributing to the long-term vision and roadmap.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (product, engineering, operations, etc.) to ensure alignment on technical solutions and project delivery. Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Performance Optimization and Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and critical technical issues. Champion best practices for performance monitoring, optimization, and technical planning.
Technical Debt Management: Assess and manage technical debt, proposing and implementing strategies for mitigation and improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Extensive experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams, inspiring others through technical expertise and strategic guidance. Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results across multiple teams and projects, connecting and aligning cross-functional efforts. Experience working in an Agile environment is preferred.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Deep expertise in mobile application development, including experience with native (iOS and Android) and/or cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Kotlin, Swift, Flutter, Xamarin). Proven ability to design and implement highly scalable and performant mobile applications.
• Extensive experience with database technologies, including both relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases. Experience designing and implementing highly available and scalable database solutions for enterprise-grade applications is essential.
• Proven ability to design and implement highly available and scalable systems, with a strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-native design patterns. Experience with designing for fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and high-volume transaction processing is crucial.
• Experience with security best practices for mobile applications and cloud-based systems. Understanding of OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities and experience implementing security measures to mitigate these risks is highly desirable.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for mobile application development. Experience with automated testing and deployment is a plus.
• Available and flexible for consultation with Product Owner and team during US business hours.
