Wells Fargo is seeking a highly skilled and motivated technical Lead Software Engineer - Quality Engineering to lead the testing and automation efforts across functional and non-functional areas of our platform. This individual will play a critical role in building a robust and scalable test automation framework, drive best practices in quality assurance, and introduce innovative approaches using AI tools and technologies to enhance test coverage and efficiency.
In this role, you will:
Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or Software Testing, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
Strong experience in test automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, TestNG, JUnit, or similar.
Hands-on experience with performance and non-functional testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or Gatling.
Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript).
Familiarity with version control and CI/CD tools like Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.
Practical experience integrating AI into QE functions - e.g., using tools like Testim, Mabl, Applitools, or in-house models for anomaly detection or test generation.
Solid understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Exposure to cloud-based environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Certifications in QA (ISTQB, CSTE), automation tools, or AI/ML would be a plus.
Experience working with microservices and event-driven architectures.
Job Expectations:
Lead the Quality Engineering (QE) team in planning, designing, and executing test strategies for both functional and non-functional testing.
Architect, implement, and maintain automation frameworks for UI, API, and performance testing.
Drive continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) test automation pipelines for faster and more reliable releases.
Work closely with product managers, developers, and DevOps to ensure high-quality releases.
Integrate and leverage AI/ML tools to optimize testing processes, such as self-healing test scripts, predictive defect analysis, and intelligent test case generation.
Establish and track quality metrics to measure test effectiveness, coverage, and product readiness.
Mentor and guide junior QA engineers and automation developers.
Evaluate and implement new testing tools and frameworks to improve overall efficiency and quality.
