Job Summary:
A skilled and detail-oriented EHV Switchyard Automation & Protection Lead Engineer with experience in detailed designing of substation automation systems, protective relays, and SCADA systems. Adept at ensuring operational safety, reliability, and efficiency through precise system integration. Familiar with testing and troubleshooting Protection & Control & SCADA system. Knowledge of Electrical power systems. Candidate should have exposure to Indian, US, Euro and other foreign codes/standards and local practices.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews engineering work within a discipline on a project or assignment in a global business unit.
  • Supervises the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers, specialists, designers and drafters.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews for direct reports in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
  • Estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work to meet schedule dates.
  • Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain their approval on phases of work.
  • Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations, including field and design documents relating to the discipline.
  • Coordinates assigned engineering work with other project groups.
  • Ensures that engineers supervised receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
  • Promotes the creation of a work environment, assisted by leadership, which fosters directness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • A recognized bachelor's/master's degree in electrical engineering, from an accredited college or university with an overall experience of minimum 18 years.
  • Site experience will be an added advantage.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Possess a broad understanding of the major design engineering deliverables.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work in a project or staff group.
  • Extensive Knowledge of EHV/HV Switchyards, which includes following:
  • Design of Single Line Diagrams, Protection & Metering diagrams, Relay/Control Panel
  • Substation Automation: SCADA, PLC, RTU, DCS, Communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, etc.)
  • Protection Systems: Relay protection/Electrical System Coordination, Digital/Analog Protection relays (SEL, GE, Hitachi & Siemens)
  • Arc Flash Analysis, Protection coordination studies, fault analysis, Tele-protection/communication with remote LDC
  • System Integration: Communication networks, SCADA integration, HMI systems
  • Control Systems: Relay settings including Line Relays
  • Testing & Commissioning: FAT & SAT
  • Standards & Compliance: IEEE, NESC, safety regulations, NERC standards.
  • Coordinates engineering effort in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • Understanding of engineering planning and control methods including computerized methods.
  • Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the engineering discipline.
  • Skill in oral and written communication and writing technical reports.
