Role Overview

The Lead - Firmware & Embedded Design (NIC Cards) will be responsible for the end-to-end design, validation, and testing of Network Interface Cards that power Smart Meters, gateways, and other communication products. The role demands deep expertise in networking protocols, embedded systems, and hardware-firmware integration to ensure robust, secure, and production-grade NIC solutions. The candidate will also mentor junior engineers and drive technical reviews across product development phases.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of embedded NIC solutions for Smart Meters and related communication systems. Expertise and hands-on coding in C, C++, and Embedded Linux for NIC firmware. Experience with Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, MQTT, CoAP, DLMS/COSEM, and related networking stacks. Strong knowledge of communication interfaces (Ethernet PHY, PCIe, USB, RS232/RS485, SPI, I2C). Work with communication technologies including LTE, 2G/3G, NB-IoT, RF-Mesh, Wi-SUN. Validation and testing of NIC hardware/firmware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and automated test tools. Define system architecture, technical specifications, and documentation for NIC designs. Troubleshoot and debug issues in hardware-firmware integration during development and validation. Conduct and lead design reviews, PoCs, prototype evaluation, and provide technical recommendations. Mentor junior engineers and support their technical growth in NIC and networking design. Ensure compliance with IEC/IS standards applicable to Smart Meters and communication modules.
Technical Expertise:

7-10 years of experience in embedded systems and NIC design. Expertise in C/C++ and Embedded Linux development for networking products. Strong background in networking protocols (Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, MQTT, CoAP, DLMS/COSEM). Experience in hardware-firmware validation and testing methodologies. o Knowledge of RTOS and real-time embedded system design. Familiarity with schematic capture, PCB-level NIC design, and signal integrity considerations. Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, etc.) for debugging. Experience with configuration management systems (e.g., Git, TFS) and requirement management tools. Strong documentation skills and ability to prepare detailed design and validation reports. Ability to mentor engineers, resolve design conflicts, and lead cross-functional technical discussions.
