Job Description

A laser technician is a specialized professional--often working in the aesthetics, medical, or industrial sectors--who operates advanced laser equipment to perform precise procedures. While the title is gender-neutral, the aesthetics field (medspas and dermatology) has a high concentration of female professionals due to the strong focus on skincare and client relations.

1. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Laser Operation:

Safely operating various laser types such as

Diode, Nd:YAG, and Alexandrite

for hair removal, tattoo removal, or skin resurfacing.

Safety & Sanitation:

Ensuring all safety protocols are met, including wearing protective eyewear and maintaining a sterile treatment environment.

Equipment Maintenance:

Calibrating machines daily, performing routine cleaning, and troubleshooting technical glitches.

Post-Care Guidance:

Providing clients with detailed instructions on how to care for their skin after a procedure to avoid complications

3. Required Skills and Qualifications

Education:

A high school diploma or GED is the baseline requirement.

Certification:

Most states/regions require completion of a specialized

Laser Technician Certification

program (typically 1-2 weeks for aesthetic lasers).

Technical Knowledge:

Understanding "Laser-Tissue Interaction"--how different wavelengths of light react with different skin and hair types.

Soft Skills:

High level of empathy, clear communication, and a "people-person" personality to make clients feel comfortable during sensitive procedures.
