The Laser Cutting CAD Designer is responsible for creating, preparing, and optimizing 2D and 3D CAD files for laser cutting, fabrication, and production. This role ensures that designs meet technical specifications, material constraints, and manufacturing standards. The designer works closely with engineering, production, and customers to deliver accurate and production-ready files.
Develop detailed 2D/3D CAD drawings for laser cutting using software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar.
Convert drawings, and concepts into accurate laser-ready files (DXF, DWG, etc.).
Optimize designs for laser cutting efficiency (kerf compensation, nesting, part orientation, tolerances).
Prepare flat patterns for sheet metal components and assemblies.
Ensure designs meet material specifications (steel, aluminum, acrylic, wood, composites, etc.).
Produce technical drawings, BOMs, and documentation for production.
Collaborate with production teams to assess manufacturability and resolve design issues.
Check and revise drawings per feedback, quality standards, and revision control procedures.
Nest parts for cutting to minimize waste and maximize machine efficiency.
Maintain CAD libraries, templates, and standardized drawing practices.
Assist with prototype development and continuous improvement initiatives.
