The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to maintain harmonious labor relations, ensure statutory compliance, manage union negotiations, and build a productive relationship with the workforce.
This role is critical in ensuring uninterrupted plant operations, fostering trust with labor unions, and aligning labor practices with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead all aspects of
labour and industrial relations
across manufacturing units.
Manage
union relationships
, including
negotiation of collective bargaining agreements
, grievance resolution, and long-term labor strategies.
Ensure
compliance with labor laws
, including Factories Act, Industrial Disputes Act, Contract Labour Act, and other relevant legislation.
Develop and implement
employee relations policies and practices
that support business objectives and promote a positive work environment.
Partner with plant leadership to drive
proactive engagement
with workers and union representatives.
Handle
disciplinary actions
, domestic enquiries, and legal proceedings in coordination with legal advisors.
Supervise and mentor the
IR/ER team and contractors
to ensure alignment with company standards and expectations.
Liaise with
government and statutory bodies
during inspections or legal compliance requirements.
Monitor and analyze labor trends, absenteeism, productivity, and propose corrective actions.
Lead initiatives around
contract labor management
, including contractor evaluation and compliance audits.
Act as the key point of contact during labor unrest or emergency situations, ensuring quick and compliant resolution.
Educational Qualifications:
Postgraduate in HR, Labour Law, or Industrial Relations
(e.g., MSW, MBA-HR, PGD in IR/HRM)
Law degree (LLB) with specialization in labor law is an added advantage.
Experience Required:
10-15 years
of experience in
labour/industrial relations
, preferably in
building materials, cement, steel, construction materials
, or
heavy manufacturing sectors
.
Proven experience in
union negotiations and handling plant-level IR matters
.
Strong experience in
managing large workforces
, including contract labor.
