The Lab Technician will be responsible for performing laboratory tests, sample collection, processing, analysis, documentation, and reporting. The role involves ensuring accuracy, quality control, infection control practices, and compliance with hospital and NABL standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sample Handling & Processing
Collect blood, urine, stool, sputum, and other clinical samples from patients.
Label, store, and transport samples as per protocol.
Centrifuge, separate serum/plasma, and prepare samples for analysis.
Ensure proper sample identification and avoid pre-analytical errors.
2. Laboratory Testing
Conduct routine and special biochemical, hematology, microbiology, and serology tests.
Operate lab instruments such as auto-analyzer, cell counter, centrifuge, ELISA reader, etc.
Perform calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
Prepare reagents, stains, and media as required.
3. Quality & Safety
Follow quality control (internal/ external) procedures to maintain accuracy.
Maintain laboratory cleanliness, biosafety protocols, and waste disposal guidelines.
Ensure compliance with NABL/NABH standards and documentation requirements.
Adhere to infection control guidelines and universal precautions.
4. Reporting & Documentation
Record and update results in LIS/manual register.
Cross-check results and ensure timely release of reports.
Maintain records of QC, equipment logs, temperature logs, reagent inventory, etc.
5. Professional Conduct
Coordinate with clinicians and nursing staff professionally.
Provide timely support during emergency sample processing.
Handle patients with empathy and maintain confidentiality.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and biochemistry concepts.
Ability to operate laboratory analyzers and equipment.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Attention to detail and precision in reporting.
Basic computer skills (LIS/MS Office).
